I heard from one of my friends that a guy he knows has a Honda Accord, 94-97 model with the USDM 2.2 L 130 HP motor, and he was able to soup it up to around 700 HP without a turbo. Could that be true, or is he lying or overexaggerating? If it's possible, what would have to be done to achieve such power? If it isn't possible, then what's the most horsepower that I could possibly get from souping up such a car? I'd like to one day drop a H22A7 into my 97 Accord. With that engine, how much HP could I free up in the end after souping it up? Thanks in advance.

Hahaha...700hp w/out a turbo. Chea right, what's he been smoking. The most power out there from a N/A (naturally aspirated) non turbo'd F22 is around 300-350whp and its completely race only.

The amount of power you wanna make is dependent on how much cash flow you have.

with a H22 you can easily get 400hp easily and reliably.  that is about as much as i would run on a street car, even then you would run into traction problems and be paying alot for gas.

Maybe he pulled it off without a turbo because he put a Supercharger on there *L* or Nitrous, but there is absolutly no way that engine can produce 700HP Naturally aspirated. Good story though.....  Ask him if the guy he knew was using a rotory engine, if he says yes then just snicker to yourself and walk away...

H22 with a 100mm bore and 97mm stroke 12:1 comp and a crap load of tuning in a 2400ish lb prelude can get you close to 300hp.

hp generally speaking  (ideal world) is dependant upon the following

1. engine displacement
2. engine speed

assuming that an engine has unrestricted airflow into cylanders, (IE it can get all the air it needs at any RPM) then as your engine speed increases so would your torque and HP (a function of torque) or as you increased your displacement your HP would increase linerally

Obviously there is more to it such as intake design, # of cylanders, compression ratio, fuel used, etc but I would find it extremely hard to believe that a 2.2L engine (no matter how well it is designed) can produce over 318hp/litre.....naturally asperated.

Honda does well with the S2K motor at just over 120hp/litre (origianl was 2L) but you had to spin that sucker up to 8300rpm to get it

He's talking 700 HP NORMALLY ASPIRATED not turbo'd or supercharged. No way.

Pimpin!   but you need to get the turbonator ultra lights,   they are 50% lighter then the regular and they even reduce your cars weight by 275lbs for each one you add!!!!  You too can reap this benifit through use of intravenous drug use! ^_^

Like everyone has said, not possible without a turbo
