Well since im 17 i have a provisional license. Me and 2 of my friends were leaving a bank were i had to make a left out of. It was hard to see if cars were coming up and I tested my luck and gave like 75% throttle and made the left. No joke like 3 seconds after i made the left a cop was right on me with his lights on. License and registration.... Gave him those and the insurance. While he was looking at them my friend goes here give him this and gave me a gold card and i gave it to the cop. He goes what is this a gold card, credit card? I said its a gold card. He goes whose is it and i got nervous case i wasnt sure how to use it lol and i looked at my friend and he said it was his and the cop got mad and said are you the one driving? The cop goes you floored it and went 40 in a 30 with your loud exhaust. I said its a stock exhaust(lol sri ftw).... and i wasnt goin 35. Then he goes Do you have ultra something gauges and i just kinda shook my shoulders. I could have said actually they have been tested by the police radars on the street and my gps and according to both my car is going 2-3mph slower than what the gagues say but i didnt say that cause he would have got way more mad. Then he goes to his car and comes back with 2 tickets. Now i have to go to court on Sept 10th....

Honestly i dont know but i dont think so eathier. The cop was a d-bag and raised his voice when i told him i wasnt going 40 that my gauge said 35. and I coulda said that I know that they are right because ive tested them with the police radars on the street and my gps and they both say that im going 2-3 mph slower than what my gauge says.

whats the thing with the gold card?

While the cop was looking at my license my friend goes here give him this(his gold card). I took it and handed it over to him and he goes whats this a gold card? a credit card? and i said its a gold card and he goes whos is it? I got nervous and said it was my friends cause i wasnt sure how they worked exactly (it happened too fast for me to think) and he looks at my friend and said are you driving? and my friend says no and the cop just gave it back. Now if i knew about it I could have just said it was mine and my cousin gave it to me(im an idiot i know but ive never been pulled over so I couldnt think)And cops HAVE too take them and respect them pba, fop, gold cards. But cops can take pba and fop cards. Hopefully i get one of those soon. But now when i go back out im taking the shield outta my friends moms car and putting in in my car.

How would that be a bribe? Its a card showing that your family with a cop they have to respect that. Im still not exactly sure how it is a bribe im new to this stuff so if you could explain that, that would be cool.

well i for one am a police officer myself...here in california we don''''t have what you call a gold card, pba card, fob card or any of that cards.... when you first explained the situation it seemed that you were trying to give him your friends credit card not one of those get out of a ticket cards.... so i apologize for the mix up...but also a rule in california is that if you try and give the officer that pulled up over anything other then your insurance, license and registration..the officer could take it as a bribe and write you a ticket....but aww i remember my first ticket i ever gotten...second day driving pulled over for a stop sign violation....

Lol I hear ya. NJ seems to be a drive how ya want and get away with it place since we have the cards and radar dectors being legal lol. But people with radar dectors get slammed with obstruction of view tickets. My friend got pulled over at like 3a.m. and got a 55$ ticket for obstruction of view because he had a pine tree air freshner on his windshield mirror lol. Thats what i call BS!

lol thats really sucks but about the radar thing many people have it also here but most officers including myself don''t really care for them i mean the radar only works if i am using my radar so whats the point of having one if 75% of cops here have theirs turn off...if i see them doing something wrong then i pull them over if their giving me a hard time ill give him a hard time also...

Word of advice for next time:

If you get pulled over for speeding, tell the officer you want to see his radar showing the speed you were clocked at. Otherwise, you have a defense in court.

Just ask for Court Supervision and drive safe, it won''t be on your driving record. Sure, it''ll be like $125 for the speeding ticket but it''s worth it.

I have never dealt with the new driving laws on underage kids, so I don''t know how to help on having an extra passenger in the vehicle. Pending on the state''s attorney, they might drop it. I''ve had several dropped that were minor infractions like not yielding or using a signal, or a stop sign.

You''ll be fine kid, it could be worse.

Does he have to show me the radar if I ask to see it? Because the last thing i need is the cop getting in my face yelling.

fight it. its always worth it.

wear a suit, or at least something dressy, come with maps of the area, diagrams of where you were and where the cop was, photo evidence of a gps speed and your speedometer, everything you can think of thats even related to the incident. Chances are the cop will come with nothing but the police report (which you should get too) and a extremely vague recollection of the events that occurred. you stand a pretty good chance of getting the ticket dropped, or at least the fine reduced and no points off your license.

my sister fought a moving violation ticket in court, came with nothing but the ticket, and got the fine split in half. of course she never paid the half-fine and eventually got her license taken away, but thats beside the point.

my dad had a friend who got caught speeding by an aircraft once. the way it works is they have lines painted on the side of the road, and a dude in a helicopter times how long it takes your car to get from one line to another, and they can base the cars speed off of that. well they used a mechanical stopwatch to time the cars (this was the early 80s). Before his court date he prepared a big presentation for court that proved that the reaction time of a person hitting the start and stop button can throw off the speed by a certain margin, and that the type of stopwatch they used was fairly inaccurate to begin with. The combination of these two factors could throw speed off significantly (or he argued). Before he even started his presentation in court, the judge dropped the ticket because it would tie up the court systems too much.

fight it, its worth it.
