Good day all!

Have a bad front strut on my 97 Accord, SE, 2.2 liter engine.

I am pretty good mechanically, but never have replaced struts before. Was wondering how difficult of a job this is on the Accords.

Also not sure what brand is good, prices at the parts store vary anywhere from 70.00-130.00 dollars. I even seen one for 125.00 as a package with the spring included, eliminating the need to rent the spring compressor tool.

A guess it is best to do both front together, but not sure if you need to do that or if just replacing the bad one is fine.

Any ideas!

Thanks

Replacing the struts is not hard.  Make sure that you secure the spring with the compressor, or you can get severely hurt.

I would replace the struts in pairs.  If one is out, the other is likely close to the end of its useful life.

Aligning the tab that sits on top of the wishbone with how the three studs that bolt in the engine bay can be a pain.

I did mine a couple weeks ago, took them out, had a shop do the spring thing (I wasn''t touching those), they charged me like $40.  I''ve got 200K on my Accord and went with the basic strut, nothing fancy, 200K on the original struts.

Piece of cake.  I would do both at the same time too.

Thanks for the info.

Did  some searching around, Monroe makes a quick strut #171989 that includes everything it looks like, spring, plate, seals, boot.....

Might be worth paying an extra 50.00 each strut to install everything, a lot easier I guess.

Anyone used these complete strut assembly''s before.

Thanks

Taking the units out of the car is not that difficult but do requires some time and labor.  I paid to have the springs compressed and take off the springs.  I used 2 sets of Monroe Sensa trac and have been satisfied.
