Ok, this happened on an old forum, everyother day some one kept asking about hids so here they are Myths associated with H.I.D.s 1. HIDS can melt the light housing(afthermarket) - more false then true, they in fact only use 35w there for run cooler the regular halgoen(its not the heat of the bulb but its shape) 2. They are only plug and play -False, for most hondas the wiring harness cannot handle the power needed at start up, and external harness must be bought to use them Below is the post i made on the other site, that was my 2000 Blazer with stock housings. I''''''''ve seen so many post of people asking about these things. I myself just got them, I have some before and after pictures to help anyone out. You are invited, if you have H.I.D.''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s as well to post before and after pics. Make sure you read the post(s) preceding this, they can and sometimes are helpful if you become confused about H.I.D.s Mine in the pictures are 6000k bulbs These are the other color options H.I.D.s come in and just some reading http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question387.htm http://www.mvlc.info/tech/xenon_faq.html http://www.mvlc.info/tech/xenon_abc.html#HIDarc http://www.mvlc.info/tech/xenon_analysis.html http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/disadvantages/disadvantages.html actually these are my bright lights it was so dim my cell cam couldn''''''''''''''''t focus right Before in a city, believe it or not ther was a car sitting right next to me, you cant even tell his head lights were there

HID''''s can melt housings, but it''''s not because of the heat, it is because the HID bulb is longer than a halogen and in some fixtures can get too close to plastic parts whereas the bulb would have more clearance. Here is more HID info: Link to discussion on "HID in a halogen fixture"

Personally, I have not seen a melted housing from an HID install .... I know that people have and the length is the cause, because like you said, less wattage equals less heat. On the other hand, an overwattage bulb will melt the stock plastic harness. On my 6th gen, I had overwattage bulbs with a high power relay and ceramic harnesses; then TYC projectors and finally, the projectors with an H1 HID retrofit, as seen in my pics.

Good Link! It''''s similar to the discussion that I linked earlier, but it only shows the downside. I think my drawings show the optic problems fairly clearly. I recognize the shortcommings of a retrofit, but at the same time also realize that not all fixtures produce bad light or blinding glare. IMO, if an article is intended to point out the flaws, it should also qualify that in most cases, the light output is actually better than the bulbs if not equal with less power -> more efficient.

I''m happy with my OEM HID "retrofit". I''ve only gotten flashed once and have driven all over. I do agree with the color range index or whatever that thing is, colors were definitely more "noticeable" with the halogens.

Perhaps you should try a 4300K HID bulb to see if what you are experiencing is due to the reflector not being optimal or the spectrum of light not being optimal ...... right now you have both.

My high beams are a nice yellow still, so I can see every detail up close, but all of the colors far away (when I need to). Very happy with it.

Buntin, I just installed a set from there too but they were the DDM ones. Anyways, did they work at all? I am assuming you didnt notice that the wires on the kit and your car are backwards. So, you will either have to file and cut the extra platic away so you can turn your plug upside down, or strip, and solder the wires correctly on the ballast itself which is was I did. Its not to hard if you have soldered before. Did you buy a relay harness? Good luck man!
