Ok, I'm starting to get over the 40k mark on my tires and will need to replace them before the coming winter.  I've been all over TireRack.com looking at different reviews for different tires, but still don't know what I want.  My car is a 2006 Accord EX V6 Sedan 6MT with the stock 17" wheels and Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 215/50VR17 tires.  I'm definitely a more aggressive driver and want a good high-performance tire, but it also needs to be able to handle the Ohio winters, which can be anything from a flurry to a blizzard.  As pretty much everyone on this forum owns an Accord, I figured you guys would be the best people to ask.

The two tires I've looked at and liked so far are the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position and the Continental ContiExtremeContact.  By no means am I locked into these choices, so any recommendations would be great.

Red .... you've been here a lot longer than I have yet you don't have a signature.  Please fix that.

As far as tires go, better performance tires don't do well in a lot of snow.  If you want real high performance rubber, then you will need separate summer and winter tires.  If the winter's really aren't that bad like they are for me in northern NJ, Ultra-performance all-season tires should work well.  With my current setup, I have Yokohama db S2's on the stock 15" tires and can hold 0.9 g's (G-Timer).  I don't like that the dual depth rain chanels have split all the way around in the inner channel.  I will be getting 18" rims soon and will not be using any tire with the dual depth rain chanel.  They all split on all tires!!!!   The performance was great though.   Your best bet is to go to tirerack and read customer reviews on the tires, but only the negative comments.  That will help you get a better idea of what you want.

He also only has 2 posts...

If you're in the snowbelt, I would get a cheap set of steels with snows on them, and then get performance tires for your factory rims.  Once you drive a winter with true winter tires, you will never want to go back.

And, like he said, true performance tires will turn your car into an unguided missile in winter.

Sorry about the sig, I had one, just didn't have it setup to add automatically.

I'd love going with the duel wheel set, but right now, economics require that I stick to a single set pushing me towards the all-season high-performance category.  I've been reading reviews on TireRack, but sometimes I get the feeling that some of the complaints are from people who expect F1 performance out of $100 tires.  Just thought I would check with the other accord drivers to find out what you guys are doing and what you like/don't like.

Just wondering what you ended up doing.  I drive the same car, and am in the same place as you... want a high performance, want to see what works best for the 6mt sedan.  What did you end up doing?  How''d it work out?  Paid?  Thanks!
