Yes, this is going to sound awful, but when I was changing my spark plugs, there was oil in the far right hole. So, in a dumb idea, I used a twist tie at the end of a metal rod to attach a rag, and the twist tie came off and fell into the spark plug hole, and I can''''t see it. Do I have to take off the cylinder head to remove it, or can I fire up the engine and it will burn it up? The only way I can think of to get it out without taking the cylinder head off would be to stick a tube inside and have it attached to a vacuum, or a magnet on a string, either of those ideas sound like they would work? How much space is inside underneath that one hole?

doesnt seemlike a good idea to fire it up, as twist ties have a metal piece inside that could/will cause damage

autozone/barn sells thin magnetic probes, perhaps small enough to get in the hole. You''d be fishing in the dark for the twist tie but it may save some time. Magnet on a string is a bad idea cause you could end up loosing the magnet in the hole too.

Thank man... I finally got around to making one... it''s only temporary, I don''t like the glare off the lights, but it hides the fact that my car isn''t modded and has steelies on it...

I''d try the magnet .... it''s not going to be easy since it''s going to stick to everything in there, but worth a try.

Empty out a small shop vac. Use a smaller diameter piece of hose that will fit in the plug hole and suck it out. With a clear hose you might even see it go by!

ewww... perhaps a long pic would help. they sell long pick tools at sears. i''d advice against starting it up. the plastic could melt and mess with the compression/oil control rings or could fly up and, worst case, bend a valve.

Why not start the engine w/ the spark plug removed for a few seconds. This will blast air out the spark plug hole and hopefully eject the wire-tie.

good luck

I''d lower the piston to it''s lowest point and then reach inside with this very inexpensive tool:

The lowered piston should give the tool enough room to bend-and-slide into different locations around the top of the piston.  Then you can extend and retract the grabbing fingers at each location.  As long as the tie is not laying perfectly flat on top of the piston, doing that several times should grab the tie and allow its removal.

If the tie is indeed lying flat, put a small magnet inside the grabbing fingers.  Wrap a layer of electical tape around the fingers to secure the magnet in position.  Make sure the tape itself is secure!  Then lower the fingers w magnet into the cylinder and go fishing for the tie.

Good luck.
