I was just curious as to what the difference is between the 6th gen V6 and 7th gen V6, to get the extrra 40 hp and if I can do the changes to my 2000 Accord coupe.

it depends on what 7th gen you're planning to get. The auto would lose a lot more hp to the wheels than the manual. The 6th gen v6 only puts about 165-175 hp to the wheels. Wheras the 7th gen auto v6 puts roughly around 218-228 hp to the wheels, the manual maybe 230-235 hp.

nah, its more like 192whp on the auto and maaaybe 204whp on a manual. which is being generous. i gave the manual only 15% drivetrain loss and the auto 20%. that is realistic. based on 240hp of course.

i guess i was being too generous haha.
But I have seen dynos of people where they have gotten 233whp, maybe because they were modded (manual). But for some reason, I keep on thinking the 7th gen has 244hp.

I guess I should have worded the Question differently but thanks for your replies, what I like to know is what internal differences did Honda make to the 7th gen V6 to increase the hp from 200 in my 6th gen to the 240 of the 7th gen. I like my 6th gen but would like to improve on it a little but still keep it relatively stock looking. Have the sleeper look, I enjoy the look on peoples faces when I beat them off the line LOL

from wikipedia:

"The J30 displaces 3.0 L and is a SOHC VTEC design. Output for the J30A1 was 200 hp (149 kW) and 195 ft·lbf (264 N·m) of torque. The J30A4 pushed output to 240 hp (179 kW) and 212 ft·lbf (287 N·m) using a three-way VTEC system, higher (10:1) compression ratio, and a novel exhaust manifold cast as one piece with the cylinder head. This version was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2003 and 2004."

Thanks Velocifero. I also found out that I can swap the J32A2 cams into my J30A1 and gain the extra power I was lookin for. But first i should get that air intake for my car then do the cams.

Again thanks to everyone for there help.

I thought that it was 244 for the 06-07 years...part of the mid model freshening.

Storms:  The J32A2 camshaft on a J30A1 engine is worth about 10 HP at the wheels or about 12 at the crank.  The bigger difference is the middle VTEC step that they replaced in the J30A4 as Velo posted from Wikipedia.  Wikipedia has a rediculous amount of info on honda engines.  Give it a read sometime.

theres the cam like falkore said, then you can also stroke it  give you a little more hp and more torque

marbro .... are you doing the J30--->J33 build?

if i didnt have an i4 i probably would, but i dont plan on swapping one in cause of the turbo kit sitting in me room ^_-     But ive had a lot of fun reading people doing that little change for "maintaining their warranty"   at least stroking the engine.      But i want to see what the gains are from that, no one has really even posted dyno's

I thought that I saw some at V6Pnet.  Great torque with low VTEC, moderate gains on peaks.  The problem with stroking is you lower your redline.

Also, since the 6th gen V6's didn't get a MT, that build would shorten the life of the glass tranny.

a cai lowers the life of the 6th gen v6's tranny ^_^

how?

I think the guys on V6P were having trouble getting the e-manage all tuned correctly and thats why they havent posted any dyno numbers other than the initial tests....that and the guy with the J33 had a semi tire bounce across the median and slam into his car!

just by allowing more power to transfer to the tranny,   any gains on it reduces the life ^_^

that rule can be applied to any piece of machinery.  A CAI isn't worth a whole lot of power.  Also, the failures are noted all milages and most reported are stock.  I have almost 90k on mine with no issues.  The only indicator is that after some hard driving, it clicks into R while backing into my parking spot.

It's not mostly on stock cars, it's a 1/5 chances that you would get a car without having any sort of tranny related problems.

I'd like to see where that figure comes from ...... and I said REPORTED ...... almost all reported cars are stock.  Cars that have no chance of Honda helping fix the dead tranny don't get reported.  Also, I'd say that it's more like a 5 in 5 chance that I'll get a car without tranny problems because if the car has tranny problems then I'm not buying it!
