i've been lookin around and ive come across somethin called an air breather and have no idea what it is. i know it refers to the intake and a valve of exhaust stuff????? well i was just wonderin what there advantages were and if i should get one. thanx

Give us a clue as to what you're talking about. Got links to any sites? Are you speaking of an air intake or filter? A breather on the valve cover itself maybe?

they are a part of the intake

If you look at your engine you'll see a hose about half inch in diameter that leads from the top of the valve cover to the intake tube prior to the throttle body. It's there to allow bypass air to recirculate back into the intake, and it's part of the emissions control components that are checked at smog stations. The air breather fits onto the valve cover in place of that hose, and is purely for looks.
