I have an 1995 Honda Accord EXL.  I'm starting to have problems with the AC system.  When I cut on the AC,  I seems to be loading the engine down when the car is in park or stopped.  As long as car is moving or gas pedal is depressed, I don't have this problem.  But car will now shut off sometimes when at red light and AC is on.  Also, when AC is on and I have to make a sharp turn, car get very jumpy....

I'm thinking that I will need to change compressor and AC clutch assembly.

Would anyone have any more helpful tips before I purchase a new compressor.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Do both the colling fans work? Has the a/c been serviced recently?

AC has not been service recently.  Both fans do work.  And one come on as soon as AC is turned on.  Fan turns freely and I didn't see any problems.

Thanks,

Is the belt slipping?  The fact that the car jumps a little when turning indicates to me that either your idle is to low, your belt is slipping so it's not turning everything properly, or the idle adjustment sensor is screwy...  I'd start with belts and an A/C service

Don't go & change compressor & clutch just yet...  Not until AC pressure measurements really indicate a problem there.

Your IACV is supposed to compensate for the load of the AC.  Problems could include dirty/sticky IACV, or your base idle not set correctly.  Maybe even a dirty throttle body.

I think the idle control system may get confused if the AC has more drag than normal.  That may indicate a compressor going bad, but leave that for later.  AFTER you rule out all the easier stuff.
