Electronic Supercharger?

I found an "Electronic Supercharger" on ebay and I was wondering if it was worth the 160 bucks. I want to beef up my accord, but I'm on a budget too, and if it's close to a supercharger, then I think I want it. But if someone knows anything about it, such as if it's reliable or has used one, that would be nice.

Oh, and if it can be "on" at all times.

no and no... run away from electric superchargers... its far to early in battery and electric motor technology to get such items for cars

Save your money, it's not worth 5 bucks.

If you want quality performance out of your car, save your money and get a real supercharger or turbo.

Interesting...that's the second question about the same topic. Who knows...maybe electric turbochargers are the next big thing...just not now.

I think car companies are working on that.  Technically it's an electric supercharger since it isn't driven by an exhaust turbine.

They're using the someday-gonnabe-new 42 volt electrical system so the alternator & motor efficiency doesn't kill the benefit.

That super upgraded electrical system has been on the burners for a while..... I wonder if we'll ever really see it? The tremendous loads on 12 volt systems can't continue indefinitely.

That's such a tremendous change with implications throughout the whole car... I'm not surprised it takes FOREVER in R&D before getting into production cars.

I'm doing some R&D of my own on my lil bros 91 accord. Im developing an electric leaf blower with 250 mph thrust and fitting it as an electronic supercharger. haha I know, but he wanted to try it and i love innovating designs. Ill do a full write up on it whence complete and post our results.

... an electric leaf blower...

Gonna need a pretty long extension cord for that...

Higher voltage means less current (for the same power).  The lower current means thinner wiring.  I've heard they can take maybe 50 or 100 pounds out of the wiring harness.

Actually, I'm using a 1200v power inverter. No need for an extension cord.

Yeah, I was just hassling you for fun.  It'll be interesting to hear how it works.  I'm still a little skeptical about real power gains.

the thing is the "good" electric super chargers are basically a fan, and its not easy to get a fan to generate the force to counter any back pressure that may be created while the engine is running...    and if you dont think theres backpressure...  look at your intake manifold.... and all of the happy gunk thats built up in it.      But in the end theres only one that i know of that can help in any way and you need two of them to get any real benifit, but for over 600 bucks you might as well get n2o

I believe youre talking about the eRam systems. Ive read that they can produce about 1psi. $300 for 5 hp? Not for me. Or $585 for 2psi - 8hp? not for me either.

If anyone is serious about doing an electric supercharger go to www.boosthead.com this is the only real electric forced induction system that can actually compete with turbo or "real" superchargers. Its actually pretty interesting.
