Did anyone else have trouble getting into the HAF late yesterday and earlier today?
I was getting a bit concerned.

You know, the old phrase "you don't know what you've got til it's gone" was exactly the way I was beginning to feel. I even told my wife about it.

I was pretty ticked at work. I couldn't get on till after 4:00 P.M. I am a member over on 6thgenaccord.com, but I still like HAF. 6thgenaccord seems to have more performance-based knowledge, whereas HAF seems to have more general troubleshooting knowledge.

Dang dude...that's some seroius forum usage there. How do you have all the time to visit all those and post all the time? I don't need to look at that list anymore. it will make me want to check out all of those forums too. I am already goofing off to much at work being on here all the time

Automobile ownership represents many things to many people. To me, living in Edmonton Alberta's harsh climate, a single automobile is pure and simple transportation only. Over time I want to spend as absolutely little money as possible for it, and that means DIY until I'm so old I can't, and that in turn means having a service manual plus a good internet forum for support.
(For everything else one can obtain from rolling on wheels, we jump on our motorcycle in the summer.)
Just from a purely practical perspective, for people who have written extensively on a particular web site, that represents a considerable investment in time and energy.
Although I believe that it is not wise to "put all your eggs in one basket", in the case of an internet forum, if no one makes the investment, there will not be much available from it. I think this is what distinguishes the HAF from some others.
Don't get me wrong - there are some other great forums, but there as well, it is precisely because people devote time and energy to post to them that they are what they are.
Yes, we all have knowledge that will not disappear if a web site disappears, but it would really be too damned bad if the fruit of one's labor - something that took perhaps hours to write - disappeared in an instant. Hopefully if the HAF was in a position of having to shut down for some reason, the members could be given some notice of that in order to at least archive some of their own contributions to it.

Actually, I use to belong to driveaccord. It was an alright forum until I got edited for saying**
You have Just been Edited Here also, so Please Keep it Clean**with a comment about keeping it clean. In another thread the f bomb and s word was dropped several times and nobody got edited. Just kinda rubbed me the wrong way so I stopped posting there and checking the site. HAF ftw for sure.

There is nothing wrong to belong to other forums,, sometimes a forum might not have the information you seek where another forum might ..And the bottom line here, is trying to help people in need
I used to surf the net for Honda sites and tried to help as many people in different sites as i could when time allowed me,, As a mater of fact i was Moderator at another site as well.. but what really turned me off about that site and other accord forums is the DISRESPECT members had for one another ,, arguing and name calling on a daily basis .. In 2 of the forums even the moderators would name call and belittle the members ,, When i asked them why they disrespect members ,, I was told that modertors there can do what ever they want ,,WOOOOOOOO needless to say i got the hell out of there ,,,
in some forums the people in charge treat members differently ,,, I feel that everyone should treat everyone with the same respect and that includes even the people in charge ,,People in charge have to lead by example ..You cannot disrespect a member and then expect other members to show respect to one another
I then came across this forum , and i was impressed the way it was run , clean, respectful , no name calling ,A professionally run forum where people can come and get some help without being insulted ,,So i decided to stick around , I still peep in another forum from time to time,,,, but whenever time allows me , this is the forum for me , and It would be so even if i was not a Moderator here ..
Wheelbroker, Sir-Nasty and the rest of the Administrators have done and continue to do a great job to make sure that this forum stays as one of the top Accord form on the net ..

You really hit on something, desert.
The HAF does indeed seem to be unique in that even when the occasional controversial political topic arises in the "Off Topic" forum, somehow people continue to be remarkably polite.
Of course, I don't know how much censorship takes place in the background, so maybe reality is quite different than what finally makes it to my screen. (Does it require a lot of censorship, admins and moderators?)
I'd like to think that it must have to do with a previously established pattern of mutual helping. It is nearly impossible to insult someone, or resort to name-calling, if that person has helped you out, or tried to help you out, in the past. And it seems to be understood by all at the HAF that if you engage in that behavior, it will lower and damage the experience here on this site.
In short, the members of the HAF hold their tongues, and (if that really is the case without censorship) that is quite something in the internet world.
Anyway, as far as I can tell, the most awful thing I've seen anybody write about another member is to tell them to list the year of their vehicle ..... or else!
