It actually happened on live TV to one of our nature presenters [Bill Oddy]. I was overjoyed. I salute the Arctic Tern for accuracy and style in the delivery and praise their good taste in choice of target.

Academic- ceramic raschig rings that came with the column, held up by copper mesh. However, for corn mash I do not use packings or much reflux in order to gain flavor.
Falkore- you know what happens to warm your suit.
Sorry for the brevity guys, but the marina is infested with yachtys for the week. It's the audi world championship of sailing, and we are a longtime host marina (read:
busy)
I'll try to take some pics to show y'all. Peace.

You wouldn't believe how long its been since I heard Raschig rings. Once had to pack a 25 foot column with them to fractionate glycols.

never actually lectured in Chemistry. That came later in life in Business Management. Worked as an Industrial Chemist for decades. Raschig rings - in a commissioning team for a new petrochemical complex. Putting together a rather dodgy process [dodgy in the sense of explosions if the system was not purged properly] of catalytic "burning" ethylene oxide to mixed glycols.

Excellent. Consider me green with column envy.
Mine is a paltry four feet.
My father is retired from his business as an industrial combustion engineer. I worked for him (somewhat) in my youth, and I am familiar with the explosion scenario you describe. Last week he did a startup for dow chem. in tennessee (semi retired, I guess) with no problems. I can't imagine a chemical engineer being allowed to play with fire! The few chemists I have met personally should stick to theory.

Dow won't let their guys touch the combustion equipment before it is running and stabilized.
We are sunny and 82 degrees f. here with a light breeze.
Stick that in your foggy arse!

By what perverse technique are your ladies to be sacrificed?
I have technology to heat the entire lattitude. That would be 24 degree lat. N. Send me the snow. In fact, "snow" is always present in certain bars here, come to think of it.

This will shrivel your technology - my column was four feet in DIAMETER so bah hoo sucks to you !

THANK YOU NORSE GODS, THANK YOU!!!!
It's 68 degrees and WINDY! That'll teach those yachtys! The sailboat races might be postponed
which would suck for me(they will sit around drinking Mount Gay rum all day and be real arseholes by evening).
Please say the raschig rings you used were larger in size than the 3/8" diameter ones I have. I'm sure
there was some headspace in the column, but 425 cubic feet of rings is huge!
Home distillation of fusel alcohols is perfectly legal here, though 25 by 4 with associated burners would
be rubbing the authorities' noses in it.

A gentleman would never ask about the ring size, i am deeply shocked ! But since you are obviously no gentleman, I will satisfy your prurient interest. They were about 6cms. as I recall and the supports were a bugger to manufacture and install.

The signature on this post really got me on a big-time rant.
In our news is the case of three drunken, drugged-up yobs who murdered an innocent family man by kicking him to death. His crime ? Trying to stop them vandalising his car. In turned out that the "leader" of this excrement [cant bring myself to say human] had been in court the previous day on an assault charge but was RELEASED on bail and basically told not to do it again. In the UK we have laws coming out of our ar...s but no justice. We have lawyers whose work in Human Rights is devoted to perverting the cause of justice. We have other lawyers in govt. passing laws which have loop-holes that other lawyers can then make a good living off.
Another one of these vile scum is due for release soon [he murdered a teacher] and the govt wanted to deport him to his native Italy. Human rights stepped in on the basis that he
might face persecution there.
Britain is rapidly becoming a lawless society and I think we will soon see vigilantees on our streets. How is it with you ? US govt has asked for a Muslim cleric imprisoned here for terrorist activity to be sent to the States on release. Guess who is fighting on the grounds that his Human Rights would be breached by this. Human ? Not even close.

So essentially the UK went from exporting it's criminals to Australia to refusing to export criminals anywhere.... That's bizzare... I can see how that would frustrate a ton of people.... Our lawyers here aren't any better BTW...
