I love the Garmin I bought for my wife (I use it occasionally). I believe it was one of the bottom of the line ones (Nuvi 200 I think). I bought it brand new for $160 (discounted from $250) on "Black Friday" last year at Best Buy.
I did a thread on it last year but I can't remember what it was titled. I heard not to get a Tom Tom though. One member was not very satisfied with his and got rid of it. I have heard nothing but good things about Garmin. It is super easy to operate.

My Aunt had a TomTom 3rd edition I believe. We tried it around the city and it worked just great. Easy to use as well. However I had no long term drive with it or anything.

I have a garmin nuvi 200w. very user friendly. only had a few issues with it(once was not updated maps, construction had just been done there). then once i put in to take me to the nearest mcdonalds and it took me to some random persons house. and a few times it will think i'm on a road i'm not(like a interstate i am under or near), this is normally when my car is parked and the unit has been off and i turn it on when i am ready to go

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 660 last summer, and I am very happy with it. They (Garmin) were and still are the highest rated GPS units by Consumer's Reports Magazine. They are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for...
The current issue of Consumer's Reports happens to have ratings on several GPS units, Garmin, Tom Tom, Magellan, Mio, Harman Kardon, etc.
Best overall pick for the Money:
Garmin Nuvi 660 and 670
Best Buy:
Garmin Nuvi 350 and 260
And no, I do not work for Garmin!

I didn't know you could change the navigator haha. that's cool. I'll have to try it. I love it when you miss a turn or something, or if you know a different route to where you are going and you turn off course - it will say in a disgusted sounding voice: "recalculating"

or dont u love it when it tells u to go straight then make a right and u run into a dead end or a f*ck*n fence and on the other side is the street u need to get to. so when theres no streets lamps and you cant see behind you or in front of you and need to make a uturn and u f*ck*n back up into a telephone pole just to get to the point u need to get to .... yea.. maybe those gps systems should say something in chinese so it screams at me when ur heading into something "sdhfklahsdkhfks!"

What I *HATE* is that we have HUGE highways up here and the service roads are actually named roads (3-4 lanes wide) themselves....
What that means is when I use navigation software (whether it be GPS or Google Maps or whatever) it always tells me to take these "roads" when I tell it to avoid the highway... Like that's any better!?!
I often have to venture off the beaten path by about 2-3 blocks before it finally realizes I'm just not going that way - then it'll recalc and give me a decent path --- but DAMN that's annoying to not know the route before-hand.
Otherwise, it's great!

My favirite is when it tells you to go somewhere, then tells you to hit a U-turn. I've had it tell me to go in circles before ..... and for some reason, it always wants to go everywhere via downtown Patterson!

Do any of you watch The Office?!!?
If so, the BEST episode is when Micheal is driving According to his GPS and turns right, imediately when he is told. Then he drives in a lake! lmao it was great!

i def say go garmin, other than its small quirks, like when im driving down to philly and i get on the 495 here in LI. The thing is acurate to 19feet, so when i merge onto the highway it thinks im still on the service road, so it tells me to get on at the next entrance ramp, as soon as i change lanes it catches up and realizes that im on the highway. Id also like to mention that im completly dependant on this thing, i never know what road im on when im driving, i just do what the nav lady tells me to do.

Fenix .... if you don't know the roads, you'd better stay in NY. In NJ you have to know 10 different ways to get anywhere if you ever want to get there.
Another thing that I like is that it knows how to get around 1 way streets.

She's makin' you her b***h.
Garmin FTW. Garmin is the leader in GPS aircraft avionics and I've had a lot of hands-on experience with them old and new. I would trust any Garmin to navigate me through a thunderstorm anyday, same with traffic jams and roads.

I have a garmin Nuvi 260w/ and My wife has the Magellan 3140. We both like the Garmin Much better the only cool thing the Magellan does is you make a trip with multiple stops and it will route you the best way or from one to the other instead of punching in each location as you go.

its nice to see some jersey folk on the forum
i live in easton, pa

I AM A LEARNED TRAVELLER... I go allll over NJ, NY, PA, CT, MA and I''m telling you the Garmin nuvi 350 is one hell of a machine
i never get lost, its always dead on, super easy to use... and there is a estimated ETA on there that gives you a very reasonable idea of when you''ll show up
i got mine for around 220 online... its sweet, get it
