Yes, Jon, I knew what you meant but I had to hassle you anyway...

I think Hondas & other cars have been able to shut off the AC under strong acceleration for awhile.  My '95 Integra could do that, as well as the '98 & '03 Accords.  But you really had to be in the gas pedal before it did that.
My '89 Saab could shut off the AC, but my '86 Jetta couldn't.

before i never really paid attention but now i see what you guys are talking about....darn.what was honda doing...they could've done better

BUT ONCE again returning to my point...a DOHC engine wouldn't have had that type of decrease..

lmao, sometimes when I have friends in the car.  I turn on the air. Then as I am accelerating moderatley fast from a stop i yell "ITS NAWWWZZ TIME" and turn off the A/C.  In which you feel a slight lurch forward.

NAWWWZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!1one!!!!eleven!

Oh yeah?  My DB8 Integra GSR was DOHC VTEC & it did the same thing with AC.  The AC was always a pain because it would throw off the rhythm of shifting because the engine would spin down at a different rate between gears.

well my accord is an auto and i noticed today that i accidentally bumped over to D3 and i had much better throttle response with AC on. only thing is when i'm on D3 i noticed that i can smell something burning when i'm hitting high speeds...

another thing i noticed is that when i'm on D4, my car can be doing 50MPH and still on 2K RPM... but when i'm on D3 its like i'm at high RPM's...i'm like in the 4K's...

Hmmm.... probably because D3 limits the transmission to shifting up to 3rd gear, no 4th. As for the response, it's most likely because you're accelerating from a lower gear, instead of downshifting and then accelerating.

it would.  even my H22A, with the AC on i can still feel a difference in power...double overhead cams makes no difference whatsoever in this situation... the Accords just have a really good AC compressor, and it sucks alot of power from the engine, even with the ~230-240hp my car should be making it still feels a little laggier with the AC on, no where near how it was with the F23A1, but it's still there...

i think what makes the most difference for this type of thing is displacement, i dont think the V6 models suffer from this problem near as much as the I-4 cars.

My 95 V6 does the same thing
My 5 liter Mustang loses power too.  Displacement doesn't matter

that could be it but hey,i guess its true what they say...sometimes you have to sacrifice something to achieve something else. so i guess basically if you want comfort you lose power, if you want power you lose comfort.

every car loses power when they have the ac on... the compressor is connected to the pulleys so obviously the car is gonna lose some power; on cars w/ low HP, you can see the difference more... and I agree w/ HPJ: to win some power, you gotta lose some comfort...

you know what actually does pretty much eliminate this problem with the AC compressor stealing power, forced induction, the only car i ever owned (well actually two cars, i've owned two of them) that didnt suffer from this problem were 1g Turbo DSM's, i had a 91 TSi AWD, and a 92 Laser RS-T (FWD turbo) neither of those cars seemed to lag at all with or without AC on, once you were in boost there wasnt a noticeable difference, boost is great, i miss being able to pass people on two lane roads without even having to downshift.  Just step on the throttle, boost creeps up and you slide right by, what i dont miss however is how turbocharged cars run out of wind at alot lower rpms (unless your running a huge turbo, and then you have to fight turbo lag)

my fwd Laser had a 16G, a slightly larger than factory turbocharger, so there wasnt much lag, but i do remember at like 2200rpm, in 5th, boost would come on very slowly compared to the AWD which i never got around to modding much more than bolt ons, it would spool to full boost in 5th just flooring it...

i still have a 14b somewhere that one day will go onto my Accord, hopefully
