I have a '91 LX that I just bought, it's been pretty cold lately and the heater will only blow out slightly warm air on the hottest setting no matter how long I drive it. I decided I'd put in a new thermostat and that didn't seem to help, so my first stupid question is if anybody knows which way it's supposed to be turned, I don't think the old one was in right anyway. Otherwise, any other ideas other than checking and replacing the whole heater core? Thanks

the longer part of the t-stat goes inwards, chk heatrer valve make sure it is operating properly. chk the heater knob as well make sure when u are fully on hot the cable pulls the heater valve all the way open

Hi New Person...Welcome to the forums...
You may want to get your radiator pressure checked includeing your radiator cap also...

Deserthonda may be right--I had the same thing happening in my 91 EX. I cked the valve and it wasn't opening all the way. I put some good all weather lube (breakfree clp) on the cable and valve and worked the heater hot/cold switch. Now the knob will stay all the way hot and blows much hotter. Thanks deserthonda.
