Just joined, great site.

I just purchased a 1991 Accord EX Wagon, paint is black.  Body is in great shape for 17 year old car, no rust.  I noticed today in the daylight that the front half of the car appears to be a bit more "glossy" than the rear.  I plan on detailing the car this weekend and would like some input on what you all recommend to get the best results.  The car only has 71,500 miles, so it has not been abused and would love to make it look as good as possible.

Thanks,

Jason

What do you have to work with? Assuming your doing it by hand Meguires has a 3 step process that does a great job and can be bought at a local Autozone. Get the Step 1 and 2. Step 1 is a pre cleaner and Step 2 is a polish. Skip step 3 and buy NXT 2.0 synthetic wax instead. Its a lot of work but you will be very impressed when you are done.

You might have some single stage paint on it .. not sure but what I would do is clay bar the car and then use Meguiars ColorX. It will clean up the paint and lay down a polymer pretty well like NXT.

If your close to Costco get a package of the yellow Micro Fiber towels for wax removal.

There are so many brand out there."find what you like, and use it often" is what Mike from meguair''s always say..it''s more important you use right technique. listen to 08coupex and falkore24

where''s that guy with his famous incorrect steps? lol...

I like the WetPaint.. it does a great job, and is very impressive..

My problem is that it ends up raining a day or two after I apply, and gets the car dirty... actually, it holds up and repels pretty well at first, but after a day or two of constant driving it actually starts to stay... The instructions say to never wash it again, just reapply, but i feel i''d just be smudging it around; maybe i''ll just rinse it really well next time before applying..

^^^  get some spray detailer.  Ultimate Kwik Detailer leaves a nice feel and a hydrophobic finish (beads like Rain-X).  Turtle wax Ultra Gloss is probably the easiest.  Mothers is somewhere in the middle.  I plan to order a gallon of Klass Detailer at RTexasF''s suggestion.

Microfiber towels are a must.  Fold into quarters and use a fresh side every panel or 2.
