So, I revved my motor up after the end of my drive today.  These Accord engines really can rev well.  I usually don't rev, but if I am getting tailgated like anything (the word tailgate seems like I created it, cause I remember when I was a lad it seemed like just after I thought of the word tailgate it was all over the news random thought).  But, anyways yeah I have an automatic so it obviously can't rev too high but damn that's the best part of the Accord in my opinion.  Hopefully a few revs a week don't hurt the engine, any thoughts? That was what appealed to me when this Accord was brand new, and it still feels brand new!

6th generation all the way!

How high do you rev it?

The most I ever revved mine (automatic) is 6 or 6.5k.  But, I usually let the rpms go to only 2 or 2.5 k, or I personally prefer 3k before it shifts into each gear.  That is an awesome time! 11 seconds! Chiovnidca is that turbo?

Sometimes, there are some bad drivers that force you to rev (i.e. tailgating).  Also, had some person come out of a gas station and that person turned right in front of me! Argh! There's no reason to be an aggresive driver (I believe defense is the best idea).  For our sake and our Accords sake.

So you've never bounced it off the rev limiter?

Yea, it's turboed. 400+hp

Jeez! So, is that your quarter mile time? I am really bad with math or mathematical concepts related to speed.  Well, I might have gotten it to 7k once

the best thing to do when someone is tailgating you is to slow way way down. Im talking like 20 mph in a 45.
usually thyll do 1 of 2 things.... back off...
or more commonly,
pass you.
then after they pass you floor it and keep up with em.
man i love pissing jackarses off.
im sorry, but when people tailgate me all it does it really piss me off. i like to return the favor.

nah, actually in drivers ed they tell you to slow down if someones tailgaiting you to both decrease their likelyhood of rear-ending you, and to encourage them to pass.

i never tailgate them in return... i just keep up with them.
unless their goin waaaay over.

Yeah, I sometimes slow down as well when I am getting tailgated.  Also, you got a nice motor even if its non-vtec.  I hear those are still pretty fast and reliable engines.  The 94-97 are great cars! It makes the Accord look bigger on the outside compared to my generation.  I like the 5th and 6th generation a lot!

if someone is tailgating me, 1) slow down  2) turn on my hazard lights  3)turn on my front windshield cleaner fluid so it gets all over their car...thats my 3 step process. the slowing down pisses them off, the hazard lights freak them out, and the windshield fluid on their car pisses them off more. its fool proof, but then again, i rarely get tailgated

does the windshield wiper fluid really get all over there car?
if so... lawl!
im so trying that.
I get tailgated all the time. Not really sure why... but its usually in the middle of the day on a weekday. Thats when the most people tailgate me. ( I dont do a lot of freeway driving, so its usually in the country )

What does bouncing the tach mean and how can I avoid it?

When I get tailgated I usually just pull a little ahead of the car to my right and stay at that speed so the car to the right is blocking the car behind me. They usually back off because they have no where to go except slow down and try to pass me on the right. Hate those tailgaters who tailgate me when I'm going with the flow of traffic. Makes me feel a little better seeing them pissed off as they back off to try and pass on the right. Was lucky enough that one time a cop was doing a speed trap a little up the road and pulled the guy over. When the roads are empty I usually pull to the right and let them pass because theres empty space in front of me so it makes sense to let the guy by.

Accordsown:  I have the 3 nozzle sprayers with the middle 2 aimed as high as they go ..... works like a charm!

As for revving, I try to shift before the limit, but I've hit it before.  I hear that the Honda's that don't last are the ones that are babied too much.

i have heard about that as well.  i guess they like the high revs maybe because the vtec engages after 4 or 5k.

Anyone else that think this is true? If it is then I'm going to start driving my mom's 04 civic on the weekends. It has never seen 4K+ RPM before and I would love to introduce it to the redline.

At, or around redline, there's a rev-limiter to save goofballs like me.  I think in my car it's a fuel cut-off rev-limiter.  Scares the cheese outa me when I hit it, 'cuz it's almost like hitting a wall when the motor momentarily cuts off.

If your oil's good, and the engine's warmed up, revving is no problemo.  I'll take it up to 5K rpm's just to listen to the sweet sound.  In fact, it's a lot healthier than lugging it like a lot of drivers do.

yes it is.  especially, if that was the way the engine was broken in.
