Is the rev limiter somewhere in the redzone or is it before the redline? Is the rev limiter kicking in when I gas it and the auto tranny shifts just before the tach redlines?

In D4, the engine should never hit the limiter.  On my car, the redline starts somewhere around 6400 rpm and the limiter is at 7k.  When I floor it, the engine will just hit 7k but not the limiter.  When you hit the rev limiter, the tach will bounce and you will know it!  So you know what it is, get on the highway with the tranny locked in 2 and get up to speed.  Somewhere around 60 you will be bouncing the limiter .... maybe a little lower for a 4-banger.

The drawn redline on my car is lower than where the tranny wants to shift on it's own, so I do not really concern myself with the 6400 mark.  For me, the bounce is the limit.  at highway speeds, the TCU is very well optimized on these cars aka. - no need to shift.  I shift mostly to improve my control over the car functions such as downshifting before I hit the gas for passing or to engine brake a bit.  Other than holding 1st gear, shifting won't make the car faster ..... the 1st gear thing may be unique to my car though, it always trys to be in 2nd and while moving won't downshift to 1 unless I do it manually.

Oh ok I know what you mean now. I've never hit the rev limiter on any of the cars I've driven so far. BTW the Accord will do more than 60 for an auto. Mine does around 65 before it goes into the redzone. The 01 goes to almost 75 when you hit the redline.

Ok, 60 was a guess ..... when I hit the rev limit (accidentally), I am not looking at the dash!

I'm hoping that I will never have to hit the rev limiter because it'll probably scare the crap out of me if it's anything like Grand Turismo 3.

in my 00' the rev limit is @ 6.5k... and the red line @ 6.2, but as falkore said b4, the rev limiter is the true limit, not the red line! hahaha

if someone is tailgating me, 1) slow down  2) turn on my hazard lights  3)turn on my front windshield cleaner fluid so it gets all over their car...thats my 3 step process. the slowing down pisses them off, the hazard lights freak them out, and the windshield fluid on their car pisses them off more. its fool proof, but then again, i rarely get tailgated

Sry to interrupt but thats funny cuz thats exactly what I do

Yeah I do that too...

yesterday on my way home traffic was bad, but t his bitch was riding my ass like i was towing her.

so i slowed down.. what pissed me off was we were going to slow (literally 10mph) to have the water flly back far enough to hit her car...
and what pissed me off even more was when i let my car slow down to idle pull, she still rode my ass for another 10 minutes straight.. ppl BEHIND her were getting pissed and went around, but this whore kept sitting on my ass.. if iw asn't in such a hurrty to get home, i would have stopped on the highway and at least acted like i was going to walk back to her car...

but damn, i absolutely HATE it when ppl ride my ass that badly.. i couldn't even see her hood she was so on my ass. GRRRRR

as for the redline, ill have to play with the D4 vs D3 rev-limiter; i do know that while driving d3 definitely revs higher before shifting.

Here's a pic of my dash for reference, I was having a rev-session while taking snaps :) and held it at 4.5k

sounds like you forgot the all important hazard lights!!!!   Maybe we should all install tail flame kits!!!!!   It would be tough with coil on plug.

Too bad you weren't driving a beat up old car that you could trash. Could have braked a little hard and she would have rear ended you. Would have made her insurance go up if she even has it.

You can make your D4 rev just as high before it shifts if you give it more gas. The only difference I've noticed between D3 and D4 is that I seem to take off from a stop faster in D3.

You are actually a bit faster in D3 than D4.  When D3 hits redline, it will lock-up the tranny then drop a few hundred rpms and re-climb to redline before you need to shift to D4.  If it's in D4 it won't do this.  We are talking about high speeds now though .... like the 105-125 range.

I have asked a family friend, whom works for honda, if its killing my engiene to drive it into the high rpms( over 5k),
he told me these engienes were made for it, as long as the engine is healthy (oil, temp) drive it however you want
because it won't over rev with the rev limiter.

LOL @ 5k ..... I hit 7k almost every time I drive it!

haha i was a newb, i was alwayse told to shift at 3k. So i assumed my engiene would suffer any higher
then thinking for myself i deceded to redline and drive fast.

Haha I probably won't experience that anytime soon, but I'll keep an eye out for that the next time I go to the track.

What kind of gas mileage do you get then? I saw a drop in about 5 mpg when I started taking mine to 5k rpm everytime I was the first car at a red light and most of nonresidential stop signs. To me going to 7k almost every time is just crazy, but I guess that's because I don't like the idea of redlining in the first place.

LOL .... I get about 18-22 mpg.  I don't redline every time, just at sometime on most drives.  If I floor it, the TCU will hit 7k in second gear on its own, but I think it's actually trying to shift a bit sooner.  My engine revs a little quicker than stock.

yeah i just read ur "Kinda New Here" thread, nice. u said throttle body spacer, does that acctually help, ive heard it was crap then not
falkore24

nah  ....  the TB spacer just makes noise I think ..... Velocifero is going to test it on the dyno.  2 runs with it and 2 without ..... we are all waiting to see the results!!!  I mainly got it as a place to drill in a nitrous fogger without having to drill anything that I care about .... but that nitrous kit is taking some time to become reality.
