I've had my Accord for several months now, and I've been noticing for the past 3 or 4 months that when I ride near or on empty, my low fuel light does not come on.  I haven't tested the light yet to see if it works, but when I go to the gas station to fill up alll the way and my tank is exactly on E, I notice that all it fills up is somewhere between 11 and 13 gallons, meaning that I have around 4-6 gallons left in the tank.  So, I'm wondering if this problem is common among the 5th generation Accords, or is it just my car?  I would like to recalibrate my gas gauge so that it reads right and be on E when I  have about 2 gallons left.  How do I go about doing that?

Normally the gauge will show "E" when there are around 4 gallons of so left.  Maybe your light bulb is out.  Sounds like the gauge is fine to me!  The gauge is set that way to avoid strain to the fuel pump if the gas level gets too low.  Plus the fact that it will make you get gas before you run out.

How do I change the light if it's out?  If there's a DIY to do that, could you link me to it?  I'd appreciate all the help.  I'm actually riding on E right now.  As I drive, the needle fluctuates between the E line and right above it.  I wonder how many gallons I have left.

I really don't know on that one.  I'm sure you have to remove the gauge cluster to change the bulb.  Check out deserthonda's post in the DIY section (4th from the top).  The link leads you to a chilton manual.  The procedure may be in there.  There are also free shop manuals you can download from the DIY section for your year model Accord.  I'm sure the procedure is in one of those.

I found the tutorial on how to replace the bulb.  Quite simple too.  I didn't know that taking the dash off could be so easy!
