First of all let me explain what I am doing, I have a 95 accord ex with tan interior, but I hate the tan interior. IMO it seems like it always looks dingy even when it's clean. So I decided to change my car from having tan interior to all black. I wanted to take my time and make sure I did everything right so it has been taking me a bit longer than I wanted it to. It doesn't make it any better that it has been in the 30's and rainy for the past 2 weeks. But today it made it close to 50 so I decided to start back up on it. So far I have pulled almost all the plastic pieces out of my car and got them painted, I have also changed my carpet from tan to black and got my back seats and my passenger seat changed to black as well. I don't have a lot of pics at the moment but tomorrow I intend on getting alot more done and taking tons of pics. I want to hear alot of feedback on my progess and all of your opinion and questions if you have any.

A few pics of my stripped interior

I intend on painting my headliner, my rear deck, the rest of my plastic interior pieces, and the top part of my dash ( as soon as I figure out how to get it out :P ) tomorrow and many pics will follow.  Let me know what you guys think about it.

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. I do very frequently get pissed and bored with the project but everytime I get something new done it makes me want to do more and more so I can see the finished project. The carpet is the same carpet in the before pic all I did was clean it and paint it. I was going to order new carpet but painting my orginal carpet turned out really well. I already have it put back in my car and it looks great. I will get pics of it in my car tomrrow.

Dang!  That looks like a TON of work!  But if you have a 2nd car I think it would be fun and a great learning process for interior tasks.  How was it taking the seats out? Also, how did you paint the carpet?  I would think that if you paint carpet the fibers will clump together or get stiff.  Looks good though!  It would be cool if you put a Honda logo on there in silver!

Yeah it has been quite a bit of work to pull everything out and I not even close to being done. I did paint the carpet, it turned out great not stiff at all and the color is very uniform. It makes it look like I bought brand new carpet and put it in. :) Where do you think I should put a silver honda logo?

EXACTLY what type of paint did you use?

You can spray paint carpet and it works awesome.  You just let it dust on basically, let it dry, then do it again.  I did it in my CRX on the rear deck.  I did an interior re-paint in that (it was all blue) to black with a couple red highlights here and there.  It looked bad BUM, actually revinyled part of the door and then painted the bottoms.

But yeah, spray painting carpet works amazing.  And it doesn't rub off if you start with clean carpet!

Oh yeah, when it comes time for your seat belts, you can dye them, but to get them REALLY black it will take a few times.  Mix a little india ink in with the dye and that will help.  Good luck man, it looks good!

Good job bro. I've painted a couple of carpets before with Dupli-Color vinyl and fabric paint... Works really well. I love to strip interiors out of cars. I do it to every car I buy and pressure wash the crap out of my seats, carpet, etc. It makes such a huge difference....

OK so I got the headliner out which was a pain in the BUM as well as the sunroof out. Thought I'd post a few pics up and let you guys see my progress.

Let me know what you think? By the way, I still haven't figured out how to get the seat beat seperate from the plastic pillar or what to do to change the color. So if you have any ideas, definately let me know.

I've never personally pulled one of those pillars off.... can you give us a shot of the backside or whatever it is that's holding the seat belt to it?

Worst case scenario I would think you could dunk the whole assembly in the dye just be sure to dry any metal parts really well once you're done.  Since you're painting the Side trim anyway it's not going to hurt as long as you don't get any rust.

Sorry about that....lol I used duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint to paint it. I didn't even really clean the carpet real good, just vacuumed it good and shot it with 3 or 4 coats of paint. It only took like 15 minutes to dry good and I had the carpet out of the car, cleaned, painted and reinstalled in about 2 hours.

I don't have my car at home with me, it's at my dad's house with no seats in it..lol but whenever i get another off day and start working on it again I'll take some shots of it and post em up for ya. Basically it's just two 12mm bolts that are under the pillar. You got to take one off, then slide the assembly up and get the bottom one. I have been wondering if honda/acura seatbelts are universal, cause I think integras have black belts and if they fit that would be awesome. If anyone knows let me know about that.

Hey homie heres a pic of what I did with my interior door panels. Just to give you a hint of what they might look like. I painted my trim blue though to match the exterior color.

Awesome man. I already have 2 of my panels painted. They look extremely good. I'll post pics of them as soon as I get them. I did my all black. I just gotta figure out how to paint the door handles because of the chrome piece. I don't know how to get them apart. I might have to just tape it off.

if you are talking about the interior door handles I'm not sure that it's easily dis-assembled,  I think you'd have better luck with either taping it off or wrap it in saran wrap.

Yea i had to use that blue painters tape to mask off the chrome part of the door handle. I recommend using a brush to get inside that gap where the screw is. You might need to if you handle is similar to mine which i dont know...

I am offically sick of working on my interior. STUFF is chipping, weather is cold, carpet is fading, it seems like a disaster. I am not sure what to do next. Things are not turning out the way I would like them to and it's really pissing me off. I don't understand why that some pieces turned out so well and others are chipping so easy. I prepped them all the same way so why some pieces are chipping and why some others aren't is a mystery. One thing I would like to point out is that while painting your carpet might initially look good is will degrade quite quickly as I have seen first hand. So as of now, my dash is not done, my rear deck is not done and my seats still look BAD imo. Makes me feel like a ruined my car, I can't find any motivation to get it done everytime I start working on it something happens that pisses me off and makes me want to quit. Some one please give me some ideas or something. I have made up my mind that I need to order new carpet painting the carpet is a bad idea, equally enough painting your seats is not a great idea either. I am not sure if it is my methods or if the paint I am using just really sucks. But either way the shit isn't sticking the way it should now. It's not spraying on even or anything. Right now it's 39 degrees outside so that might be part of the problem but I am not sure. All I know is that it is really aggrivating me to know that I have a car and I can't drive it because the stupid interior won't do right. Not to mention I am pretty sure I am missing some screws to put things back together. I wish I had some help but no one i know wants to lend a hand. Either way I don't know when i am going to get things finished or what I should do next. Feel free to give me some words of wisdom, advice, ect.

if you don't want to shell out the cash for new carpet then I bet dye would do the trick, most grocery stores carry fabric die in their cleaning section (mops, brooms etc) I thought my wife was nuts when she first told me that....  As for the trim pieces, if they are that cold when you paint them I don't think the paint is going to adhere/set-up properly.  check the back of your can and make sure that it says it's ok to use in colder temps.  Also, how are you preping the pieces?  Walk me through your procedure.

Basically I am taking the piece spraying it with paint thinner to remove oil grease and dirt and cleaning it with that. Then I spray it with a layer of adheasion promoter let it dry then paint on the black in somewhat light coats until the tan is covered. Also I was thinking about the fabric dye myself but everyone keeps telling me it will fade, bleed onto clothes and needs to be sprayed on with hot water and all kinds of other stuff.

I wasn't aware that fabric dye wouldn't work.... My wife dyed some clothes with it and they have been just fine without any issues so I don't see why carpet would be any different (admitedly though I believe it gets applied in the washing machine, I.E. Hot water)

On the pieces that are flaking off have you tried roughing up the surface with a very high grit sandpaper?

Double check the "operating temperatures" on the spray you are using.

So how would you apply the dye, would you get more seats and dye them only or would you spray the dye over the seats and carpet that I have already painted? What is the best stuff to use to strip paint back off so I can redo my pieces.  I tried using aircraft remover, and paint thinner and both are a pain in the REAR to get the paint off with. I read just now where people where using leather dye found in the shoe section to dye their fabrics and vinyl. Ever heard of that? The people who are doing said they are quite pleased with the results and it is very permanent. What do you think? Also do you think I should just put my drivers seat back in and wait till spring when it warms up to do it or should I continue on beings my interior is all out. I am just not sure what to do anymore. I am like stuck ya know.
