HA!  That's an excellent reply.  I saw a comedy flick called "Hot Fuzz" and in it they moved a london cop to the country and he couldn't understand the locals-it was very funny.
You would have a field day learning hillbilly slang and ebonics here in America.

We could organise a Geordie - Hillbilly dictionary with an English translation alongside. I don't know what ebonics is.
So - buenos dias ustedes, ala hora ! Una cerveza !!! American wimp. Dos creveza surely.

All this multi-lingual expertise on display reminded me of the first time I went to Spain.
1961 four of us in a Ford Prefect [3-speed, 1172 cc side-valve, horse power - probably].
Left home late at night Friday and drove all night to Dover for the cross-channel ferry. Drove next day to just south of Paris and had a good kip in a cheap hotel. Next day drove all day and slept in the car in a field. We crossed the border next day at noon. Finally got to the Costa Brava and stayed two weeks sleeping mostly in the car or on the beach. Next time was better 1963 Flew from Newcastle Airport [ a wooden shed in a field ] in a converted WW2 bomber [i think] a Superconstellation G with 4 piston engines. The nose wheel was so high that when you got in the plane you walked up-hill to your seat. The noise was worse than a rock concert. Anywho, finally landed in Valencia and then by coach to Benidorm to a HOTEL. Such luxury ! Got sunburn the first day [still got the scars], got pi...... every day but one was memorable. We had hired a small SEAT [Spanish Fiat] to tour around. One night we bought tickets to an open-air night club - 50 pesetas to get in then all the "champagne" you could neck. We had flamenco dancers [brilliant !] then a guy came on to sing Spanish songs and I stood up to applaud every single one [ he had a clip-on bow tie and it had come loose on one side and it was swinging in time with the music. To me, this was the highlight of the evening and I clapped so that he would stay on stage with his swinging bow tie. Didn't say before but club was out of town and we had used car to get there. So, about 3am, rat-arsed, we drove back to town, windows open, singing away, blowing the car horn at passersby when reality struck. Guy stepped in front of the car and waved at us so we gave him a mouthful of English pleasantries until he unslung the machine gun off his shoulder. OMG its the Guardia Civial. Spain's National Guard under General Franco - we had heard all sorts of stories about them liking them to the SS or KGB [mostly untrue] but we were arrested, thrown not into jail but into the local Guard lock-up. Released the following morning and fined 350 pesetas for blowing the car horn in town after midnight, not for being you-know-what. That was my contribution to the image of the Englishman abroad. Some years later, my son was conceived on the Isle of Ibiza..
Gawd, I do rabbit on, dont I.

Yes a couple of times but now I'm on my own I drive down. Last time was in an Opel Manta GTE which is/was a sport coupe, very slinky and sexy. Went to Cordoba, Grenada, Seville and ended up in Malaga. If [should say when] I get the Monza finished will probably have another road trip [Monza - a Manta on steroids] but still major work to do.
How about you ? Planning anymore globe trotting ?
Hasta la vista, bro. [ no idea what that means but I heard Arnie say it in a movie]

We spent a little time in Malaga but it was brief. Doubtful if more globe trotting is in the future. The trip was a once in a lifetime situation where accumulated air miles and hotel points were used. The trip was very inexpensive due to that situation. My Coventry Lass may be going back to the UK in March with her grandson but that is not confirmed as of yet.

The current exchange rates aint very favourable either. Twiddling my thumbs after lunch I googled Brownsville. You ARE a long way south in the Gulf of Mexico. Do you visit Mexico at all ? I would love to visit the Aztec remains.

Although Mexico is just the other side of town (literally) I have not crossed over or gone to the interior. Maybe one day but the drug lords are in a high state of irritation right now, it's not a safe place to be.

Many here go across the border for physicians, dentistry, and prescriptions as they are dirt cheap compared to the US. In fact you don't even need a prescription, just tell them what you want and they provide it for less than half of the cost here.

I seem to be getting posts in two bits with time between . Is that common or is it my ISP ?
Drugs are an obscenity. Like in Afghanistan, we know where the poppy fields are and we know the opium is bound for Europe but we do nothing about it. Surely this is a valid target for napalm ?

Not if you go to a reputable pharmacy.

Yeah, but if you use napalm, the birds can't get a buzz from the smoke!!!!!    The gasoline fumes will kill them!   Now a propane bomb ..... that would serve multiple purposes ...... including some strange flight patterns.

Might as well have some fun destroying the drug fields!

I was in Ibiza when the Spanish police decided to clear out the hordes of hippies who had established themselves in the islands interior and were growing various herbal substances. They turfed them all back to the mainland and burned the fields. Depending on which way the wind blew, it cost nothing to get cheerful.

LOL @ the "war" on drugs ..... and losing it.

Does this mean that the bong smoking hippies are fighting a war? ..... and winning it???    and here they just thought that they were getting frucked up!    It's hilareous to think of the GOP losing a war, using all their resources to a gang of stoned people that can't even get off the couch!!!

How about a war against ignorance?!?  I think public stupidity causes more problems than drugs or alcohol.

x2^

"Did you know America ranks the lowest in education but the highest in drug use? It's nice to be number one, but we can fix that. All we need to do is start the war on education. If it's anywhere near as successful as our war on drugs, in no time we'll all be hooked on phonics. ~Leighann Lord"

Maybe that poverty or at least, grossly unequal distribution of wealth, is a bigger problem

Another area of my ignorance is your education system. Dont really know what a High School is or what age you go to university and this sport scholarship thing is a total mystery.
Maybe America hasn't caught onto education as a money spinner yet. Give you an example - its approx 35 miles North to South in my republic. That area contains 5 universities, each with student bodies of about 15 thousand average so say 75k students, about 60% of that will be students from outside the EU all paying full tuition fees. Durham has a top business school only bettered by Manchester - to do an MBA there will set you back about £15K and there is a waiting list as long as your arm -you know MBA - Master of Bugger All. Domestic students then benefit from the rip-off of non-European students but you have to work at it on the marketing side.
