i'm planning to spray paint my engines covers blue metallic to match my intake that is on the way and wondering if i need to use HI-TEMP stray paint??? and where can i get them and how much?? any other ideas or suggestions?? thanks!!

Clean the surface really well before you paint and make sure that there is no oils on it, I would probably remove it from the vehicle to paint it properly then get it setup in a position where you don't have to move it around a whole lot ( if you can just hang it from the ceiling, tape off all the inlet and outlet ports to avoid getting paint in then, use a high temp paint to make sure that it's not going to flake off and I think the spray kind runs $5-$15 per can and one or two should do the trick....

Yeah, you should be able to get paint at any auto parts store, even Wal Mart might have some in the automobile section.

i heard a guy use a hi-temp primer first than use a regular paint and then finish it off with hi-temp clear coat. should i do that or should i just get a hi-temp blue spray paint??

Hmmm. Well you could do it either way, but I would think that using the clear coat over the top would make it a glossier look, if thats what you're going for. I personally would probably just use the high temp paint, and do two or three coats.

Whatever you do, just use high temp. Using a paint not meant for that kind of heat will eventually crack and flake off, and would probably crack even if it were under high temp clear coat. Just do it right the first time, spend a few bucks more, and you'll be happier than having to do it all over again! Good luck!
