The previous owner had a nitrous kit, at the very least there is a lever and switch at the bottom of the dash that he left behind...I was wondering, I still want to focus on your normal N/A mods (intake manifold, cam, heads, etc.) but was considering having a small (like 45 shot) nitrous put in. Would I have to be more conservative with the cam, etc. or could I still go all out on that stuff?

My theory on that is if your stock engine can handle the small shot why wouldn't a beefier one? The thing to watch is that if you upgrade one part but not another you create a weak point... for example, aftermarket cam, a high lobe cam with stock valves probably isn't going to work and if it does you're going to beat the piss out of them and probably toast one... But Basically long and short, you may add a touch of engine wear on the non replaced parts that wouldn't normally be there but I would think it'll be okay....
How much of a shot you can go to I have no idea...
