I was just wondering what everyone hates (or likes) about ricers the most, is it the cars or the drivers? I don't really mind them unless they act macho macho at car shows. In my opinion I think they are fine...if they like their car, well I think thats all that really matters.

I agree. If they like their car, then good for them. However, when the geo metro with the massive wing revs next to me...yeah, little awkward. After all, it's all about the down force.

Lets see, the ones with the ego that makes them think that they have the best car with light mods, or a body kit, coffee can style muffler and neon ground effects. Those sort of things ^_-

At the end of the day we are all petrolheads. Don't care what they do their cars.

I don't really hate ricers, like everyone says: It's their car, so they can do what they want.

I just don't like the crap the honda community as a whole has had to deal with due in part to them.

So what defines a ricer? I'm sure it differs from person to person, but overall it's what?, the modifications to the vehicle, the attitude, the music, clothes?

In the end, as long as we try to bring all Hondinians together, it's all good.

I know ricer is a term that has been thrown around for any japanese car. However, I think it means now-a-days someone who more or less just tries to make their car look fast, instead of actually doing things to increase performance.

Come on, anyone who puts a big wing on a FWD car with nothing else done to it performance wise is going to get it from someone.

I really don't care what people do to their cars. But a lot of people do for some reason. I guess it gives the domestic guys something to rip on. Even import tuners make fun of them...

Yeah, thats one thing i don't care for. The "ricers" do tend to give Honda owners a bad name.

I would define a ricer as someone with some form of overly done visual mod(s). Like a wing thats too big or investing enough money in body kits/rims/paint to have been able to buy a turbo or super charger/cat-back/etc....and actually be fast. If someone just has the clothes and/or the attitude I don't tend to consider them a ricer, but it does tend to add to the "rice factor" if they already have the referenced criteria.

Oh, and the exhaust has the be considered. No car should sound like a weed wacker unless this thing is one wicked, 200hp peice of yard equipment.

For myself...I dont have any problems with or without Rice...
There are a lot of silly looking cars out on the roads to look at not just imports...and many of them are of the same so called Rice Look..

Don't forget that someone who is trying to Express their ideas actually thinks that they are doing a GREAT Job on modding there cars....

WheelBrokerAng....by the way I do Love Rice Pudding...with cinnamon sprinkled on it...Yumm!

O.K., that's fair enough. That's pretty much what I thought the general feeling was concerning Ricers. I didn't know if I was going to be considered one of them! But I guess not! I guess the theory with them is 'All show, no go". The majority of upgrades I will be doing will cover handling, braking and better 'breathing' for the car. I will also be adding to the looks, but it's not as important now, that will come later (too expensive).

Lots of good points! I think that some people just go for show and some go just for Gooo. I've got neon and home made underlighting (though I never really use them b/c its illegal) and a exhaust and headers coming soon. But I guess the whole Ricer thing is based on how the owner acts...I mean the car can't talk, its the owner who represents both. I do hate, like you guys said when if you have a Honda then the domestic guys like to be a pain in the azz. But then again, i've went to a car show and the Vette owners (most) are awful, I cant stand them. One of my neighbors has a really nice Corvette (though I dont care for them) and he wont even park next to them. As for the wing thing I usually agree, but some cars do look good with them. Although I did see an older Lincoln Continentel with a massive white roundish wing on it.....

Thats ridiculous. I personally really like Corvettes, but I hate to see that stereotype on them. I've always found mustang owners to be pretty bad, but thats just my personal experience. Hopefully, (if the cash flow is good after schools over) I'll be one of those Corvette owners thats not stuck up like that.

I didn't mean all of them (sorry if I offended you), I mean I know there are Vette owners that are great enthusiasts but the ones around my town are pretty bad... For example, we have a 1979 Dodge Lil' Red Express and the theme of the car show was pickup night. So we brought our truck and parked a few spaces down from the Corvettes and two owners of corvettes walked right up to us and said "You guys need to move, these are Chevy only spots" Now mind you, the theme was for trucks and there are no designated areas for certain makes or models and he wasn't even nice about it. So I hoped in our Dodge Spirit and parked it right next to the guy who tried to make us move and enjoyed the nighthehe

Let's face it. There are many things people do to their cars to mod them, it just seems the honda crowd gets most of the trash talk over it. And that would be fine as long as real tuners could get some respect. Aparently few have seen a 10 sec honda rip down the track. And the fun part is, it's not a hard thing to attain if you know what you're doing.

What about the guys who get wings on their trucks? Or slap some fake hood scoops on. "Ricing" isn't just limited to hondas...

I have a lot of friends who are into mustangs. One guy has a 450hp supercharged 5.0, and he is the most respectful guy to honda tuners. He realizes that people who play with cars all have the same thing in common: Getting dirty and making things fast. My other friend has a 04' GT (automatic and totally stock), and he really doesn't care for anything out of japan. He thinks buying american cars supports the economy, and buying japanese hurts it. Little does he know about all the american jobs honda has made with their factories in the States. So I nag him about his fake hood scoop and side brake vents that came stock on his car as I fly past him in my little accord

Oh no, I meant like, it was ridiculous that the guy was stuck up like that. Didn't offend me in the least and I definitely liked what you did in that little story. I probably would have done the same. People like that who are rude for no reason bug me. Hes probably the same guy on the forums who tries to talk down to people all day. mbo is definitely right...anyone who mods a car always has the same thing in common with the other guy.

My friend hates honda's with a passion because everyone mods them and theres nothing original about them. Even though in the end, even though he upgraded an engine that no one does and put it in a grand am that no one builds up. Which in the end isnt all the original cause hes building an engine, putting it in a car and then ***** about how it would cost him 1000 dollars to have a turbo manifold made for him and that american cars are better cause there are cars that actually come stock with a turbo instead of honda's which have to have after market blah... blah... blah.... And I cant help think.... youre proving your point how?
Rant done ^_^

Though "ricer" was obviously intended originally to make fun of some idiot with a japanese car, the general category definitely DOES extend into other vehicle makes. In the domestic community, I've seen people put a 6 inch cowl hood and drag radials on a car with no other real mods. I'd say that's just about as dumb as some of the stereotypical japanese cars with neons and huge wings and bright colored wiper blades. It is their own car and they can do whatever they want with it, but I've been scoffed at by some people for my old mustang (that was anything but stock and a fabulous car) just because of some of the dumb people out there with "riced up" cars making lots of noise and clogging up the mall traffic on weekends. But I guess anything you're into is easily stereotyped by the general public. Whether it's cars or anything else.

Speaking of domestics, I saw a firebird roll on by today with a VTEC badge on the side and a TypeR badge on the back. That was hilarious.

No kidding guys! I did a big double take too. I just couldn't believe it. I don't know if it was a joke or what. Unless there is a honda engine in that firebird now, that is one confused soul.

Wish I took a picture! That would be my desktop also.
