Securing items in trunk?

I always keep a portable air compressor (the kind you plug into the cigarette lighter) in my trunk along with a tire plugging kit in case I ever need it.  There is a handy little spot back there that fits the tire plugging kit wonderfully.  However, the air compressor is constantly banging around back there.  Every time I take a turn I hear "plunkplunkplunkplunk..wham!" Even if I try to take it easy on turns.
So my question is: does anyone else like to keep items such as this in their trunk?  And if so, how do you keep it from flopping around all over the place?  I almost wonder if the thing still works it has been taking such a beating back there

I'm a fan of getting one of those rubbermade style tubs with the lid so I can put all my automotive repair/safety stuff in it, keeps it neat, organized and from bouncing around, then pack a blanket or two in around the stuff inside just in case you ever get stranded in the cold.

Good call.  I still think the rubbermade container would slam around back there though.  Plus it will take up a lot of room.  Then were am I going to store my dead hookers?

I mean a tub that is fairly short and fits everything nicely, then punch a hole or something in the side of it and secure it to the back corner of the trunk

put more stuff back there.

seriously though, you think thats noisy?  try listening to a loose bowling ball or two when it breaks free from the pile...

I think it's more distressing that I am afraid the air compressor will break from all the abuse.  Don't want it to be $30 flushed down the crapper.  I went looking for tubs at WalMart.  Stupidly I didn't measure the compressor, so I didn't buy one yet.

Why not just bungee it to the plastic hook?  Better yet, muffler strapping.

In my trunk there's a plastic hook on the right side over the wheel well.  I think it's to hook clothes to

not sure if I have that hook.  I'll have to get my butt in the trunk tonight and check.

Now you're just making it too complicated
If I do buy a tub, I will buy one that will not allow it to "roll" within said tub (i.e. depth of tub will not allow rollage)

Maybe this illusive "hook" will be a good place to secure "other things" with ropes/bungee cords

is rollage a word?  or only in the dirty south?  haha

It has been used in other contexts I believe.  Such as drug references. Ex: "Hey...me and my dawgs gonna get some 'e' and do some serious rollage tonight."

1. rollage

the role of fat that hangs over or out of any type of clothing that is worn too tight. Did you see that gal in those painted on jeans. She had rollage hanging over the top. Did you see the rollage on her back under the bra she was wearing.

Does your car have the tie-down net in the trunk?  The round knobs that it hooks onto work good, and my trunk has an extra one on both sides of the trunk that I bungee my battery pack/jump starter to on the driver's side.  One the passenger side I bungee a small tool box (which never gets used, 'cuz my baby never lets me down).

You know...the most obvious and easiest of fixes is to fill your entire trunk with packing peanuts.  But make sure the color of the peanuts go with the paint...dont want the peanuts to make your car look trashy now do we?

Nice!  The peanuts would hide the occasional dead hooker as well.
