Selling the "Cursed" 2007 Accord

Long story short:

2006 - Lost '99 Honda Civic in freak urban area flood (car was under water).

2006- Replaced Civic with '06 Accord. When picked up car from dealership it was all scratched up. Spent 4 months trying to rectify this with dealership.

2007- Picked up brand new '07 Accord as replacement from dealership.

2007- W/ 200 miles on it, the '07 Accord was crashed into (while parked) causing $4500 in damage. Had that repaired

One month later, a truck threw a rock into our windshield (had to replace out of pocket due to numerous ins. claims).

So, we're thinking this car has some bad ju ju associated with it and we're contemplating replacing it, rather than us waiting for something real bad to happen (possibly with kids in the car).

We would have bought a Civic as a replacement in '06, but they were impossible to find back then. Now they're readily availible, so we're taking a hard look at the 07 Civic Si Sedan. It's got all the refinements of the Civic EX, but with a few Si touches, including a 197 hp engine, improved performance suspension, etc.. Here's a picture: 



What do you all think? Comments on the car compared to the Accord...? I know the Civic has more horsepower, but less torque. However, it's a lot lighter.  Also, are we insane for trading in a brand new car for another? Seems silly to me, but there's just this bad mojo vibe happening when I get in the Accord.

If it bugs you then you'll never be happy in/with the Accord. You might take a soaking financially but that's your call. Don't forget that the Si requires premium fuel. It should be a lot more fun to drive by far. One of the few negatives I've read consistantly is the location of the emergency brake. Apparently it wacks the right knee constantly so be aware of this when you test drive. That could ruin a great driving experience for me especially on a lengthy drive. 

I seriously thought about the Civic SI when I was in the market last december.  I ended up purchasing the accord because it was more sensible for me.  I was vehicle to road trip with to bowling events, so trunk room and space were very important.  Plus, I felt that if I really wanted to have fun, I would drive the M3.

However, if I didnt have the M3 already in the garage, I would hve bought the Civic SI hands down, even though it was about 3k more than the Accord (sticker is similar, but there was, and probably still isnt, any dealing on the SI).
 
You will definitely take a bath though.  However, if money were really the only concern, you wouldnt even be talking about new cars.

Well, we already had a dealership quote about $1500 off msrp. We've had others tell me they're willing to deal too. Much different approach than other Hondas we've bought where salespeople start the conversation with "This car is too hot, so we won't be dealing at all"... 
 
So, I think we'll do ok financially. We probably won't make money, but also consider we bought our 2007 Accord EX for 4K off msrp (1500 under invoice). [$19,300]  Don't ask how, it's a long story. Part of the getting the 06 on clearance, then it having scratches, and then getting the 07 as a replacement. We did pretty well, but the car is a mojo lemon (fine mechanically though).  Plus, the Civics are all on special Honda 2.9 apr financing now.
 
Thanks for the advice about the Si Sedan. It's good to hear the negs before the test drive today.  I liked the Accord and was happy with it, over the Civic EX (which we couldn't find anyway). We have grown to like the power of the 2.4l Accord with 160 ftlb torque, so we don't think we'll like the standard Civic now we're used to the power. I'm hoping we'll like the Si.  Though, I'm pretty sure I'll like it, it's convincing my wife we need to ditch the cursed Accord and go for a smaller sportier car. I think she's almost with me on the decision to get rid of the cursed car, but even I keep second guessing trading in a new car... seems foolish when I think about it... But then I can't get over the bad feeling I have about the 07 Accord as it is.  We'll see...  I may test drive the Si and hate it, then we'll be back at square one. Though, the CR-V is nice too. We've owned 2 in the past.

Its about the car, not the money.  I traded in an 06 325i that I had bought new after 14k miles.  I was ecstatic with it until I ran over some road debris and did some suspension damage to it (it wasnt my fault, luckily).  They fixed the suspension well enough I beleive, but I dont think they grounded everythign properly when they did the welding, as the electrical componets just seemed to be a bit off.  it wasnt enough to take it back to the body shop, but, I just didnt want to deal with it.  I traded the car for my current M3, and have been happy ever since.
 
If you can afford it, do it.  There are much worse things to 'waste' money on (like hookers and beer, though some would disagree).

So we test drove it... Loved it, but the wife didn't so much love it.  She liked the car, but not the red upolstry stiching... She thought that was ricey (20 year old stuff). We're not 20 anymore, so she was concerned. Now she's back to thinking we'll stick with the cursed Accord... Oh well, I'm on the fence too, but was sorta leaning towards the Civic.

What to do, what to do..decision that you have to live with here..

I greatly appreciate your decisive opinion on the matter.  

I really like the Civic Si but Im a pretty big dude and needed the extra room as I do take a lot of road trips.
 
I go with the suggestion to wait for the 08's. 
 
They had a concept picture of one in Car and Driver last month and it looks like an Acrua TL!! 

Are you sure its the car thats a mojo lemon?   The only people that I have seen things like that happen to are generally not lucky in life.... or just that year.   But whatever, you can blame the car.......  I'm sure the car isnt crying...... on the outside......

When the '08s come out, I'm trading in my '03.

I still haven't decided. One minute, I'm ok with the Accord, but the next minute I dread allowing my wife to drive the thing. I'd be the primary driver of the new car, but we do switch out from time to time...

Ok heres the deal me and my friends have dubbed all accords as EXTREMELY unlucky cars. Don't get me wrong though i LOVE my baby but she gets me in some scary situations...

My friends 2000 Coupe slammed on brakes but unfortunately hits a puddle of water rear ends somebody

Service road at night (i really shouldnt have been on it going that fast) make a surprise turn on the ONLY puddle on the road and screwed up my suspension

This afternoon had to swerve to avoid an Odysee coming from a back alley (I was lucky enough to expect the idiot to do something stupid before he/she turned out at me)

Here's the original Civic which was lost in a flood. The water is subsided a bunch in this picture. A half hour earlier, the water was up over the dash board. Sad... :(

Accords are not unlucky.  I drove one for 9 years (203k mi) sans incident.  Shit happens, sometimes to accords.
 
To the OP, what have you decided?

just no way you can convince me that a civic is nicer than an accord. I have driven an 06 civic and an 06 accord and the accord wins, hands down
