hey all, I'm thinking of replacing my timing belt, balance shaft belt, alternator belt, power steering belt, all tensioners and tensioner springs, and my water pump. Labor for all is $400. Parts, around $300-$350.
Is doing a job like this worth it? I'm trying to put an intake and exhaust on it and travel into the 4-5k RPM range more often. Also, how long will this extend my engine life? thanx

I heard some people say they put new belts on, then tensioners let go and engine blew. Also, i forgot to mention, the only seal I'm thinking of getting would be the camshaft seal. Other than that, my funds are very limited. What do you reccommend to replace?

I have 387,000 on my accord and I have never replaced the tensioners, the most critical seal is the balance shaft seal, but for less than 25.00 i would replace all of them including the oil pump o-ring

I worked at a honda dealer for over 8 years as the shop counter parts person and I think I probally sold may 5 tensioners in that time, If the belts are done right you shouldn't have any problems.

If you've got the tensioners then you might as well replace them but if you haven't bought them yet then don't and just use the money for seals

are these all the things I need for a 90k x2 (180,000miles) tune up? just timing belts, balancer belts, water pump, and whats listed above? I got a mechanic that says he can do everything for $257. do I need anything else?

That should be complete.  Is the mechanic also going to do a valve adjustment?

if he'll do the valve adjustment at the same time you may need a new valve cover gasket....

probably not, just installation. After all this, maybe i'll get an intake or exhaust system or something.
