How hard is it to change the timing belt?

They have a kit you can buy with the belt, tensioner & water pump for $130.

I have good mechanical skill but have never tackled this type of project.

or should I just take it in to a shop.

I called around and was quoted $400 by a honda shop, $425 by dealer.

any help would be cool.

thanks

mydog-I have done it twice- once on a 90 and once on a 92 accord. It's not the easiiest thing in the world but if you have a good manual and some self confidence you can do it. Most shops charge 400 + for the belt swap but add at least a hundred mor efor the water pump. If you do the timing belt, do the water pump. It'll take you an extra half hour. Make sure to replace the balnce shaft belt along woth the timing belt. I got both belts for >40 and I believe the pump was 50. I did.nt replace the tensioner but that is your call. Good luck

this is one bad ass job to do

if you dont have garage equipment it will turn really annoying to do yourself +the towing fee when you have to tow it to garage when you screw it up.

i vote for let the professional do the job.

I agree. It's nothing to fool with. I just had mine done for $125 by an ASE guy in a good shop.
