Hey everybody, quick question
what are the laws in your area for tinted windows? anybody ever been pulled over for windows being too dark? What did the 5-0 do? I've heard all kinds of horror stories. I live in Arkansas. I've got 5% and i've never gotten any heat for them

I have never even been pulled over for my windows here in arkansas, and every car i've ever had has been blacked out. Alot of custom cars have blacked out windows here,tho.... so I guess the police don't really notice. I'm sure as soon as some dumb kid with tinted windows gets in a wreck and kills somebody, they'll take notice and all of us good drivers with blacked out windows will start to get noticed.

I have 20% all around on my accord( I have pics in the gallery section) It is not legal in NY but I haven't really had problems with the cops. A lot of people in NY get 20% in the back and 35% in the front. Some people do 5% but I think that stands out more.

I have the rear windows of my 99 Sedan LX tinted half-mirrored green. They are about 15% and I'm going to tint the front two with a 35% green tint. I've already been pulled over once for my rear tint, but I was told that it was illegal when I bought it. Not that I cared though. Anyway, I think it;s just another way for the police to suck money away from people to finance their sorry asses. The cop told me that the first ticket is 90 dollars and every one after that is 130. If I get pulled over more than 3 times I might concider a change, but at this point I'll take my chances.

heathan where are you located because I noticed cops usually give people a hard time with the mirror tint?

I live in the Newark/Heath area of Ohio, but I got pulled over on the east side of Columbus. It was on father's day too. I was on the way to the store to pick up some steaks to cook with my dad and got pulled over. ANd, to make matters worse, right as I was being pulled over, another car with mirror tint was passing by. But oh well, thats my luck. I got off without a ticket though. I'll post some pics of my car up soon to show the tint.

Well here in PA theres now clear law, from what ive found it says 70% is acceptable. and it also says that you have to be able to see inside the car. i just put 35% on mine well still got one window to do. So i guess ill find out how picky they are around here.

I believe as long as they can see in ur rear window then thats all that matters

The big deal about tint is when a cop pulls you over , they must be able to see inside the vehicle. The reason for this is because if they pull someone over with blacked out windows, they can't see any weapons through the glass. I know from personal experience
(Military Police), I will not approach the drivers door until all windows are rolled down. It's my life not theirs!

I just saw your post, and I'm pretty sure that there are laws in Florida for tinting.

Here is a link: http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/FL/

as long as they can see in the front window your fine. prob is that a cop will pull you over after you have been out partying all night...so i wouldnt recommend doing anything drastic to the windshield ot front windows. even with regular tint on the back and front, people can barely even tell your drinking a soda.

im in texas, and also a texas state vechile inspector. our tint laws are messed up. to pass state inspection, ur front driver and passanger windows cannot be more than 20 % and ur windsheild cannot have tint except for the top 5inches of the windsheild or the ASI line. for the back windsheild or back seat windows, u can go as dark as u want. but you can get a ticket for less then 35 % on ur front windows, jus goto court and fight it, if your laws are like ours

i got pulled over too in montana for having my front windows dark (20%). that cop i guess was bored cuz there were several cops passed by me and not cared except for him.must be a quota thing for him. and he was on the opposite side on I-90!

Any cops here to talk about this?

In particular, I have 2 members of the family that are cops, and they both are adamant about clarifying that there is NO SUCH THING AS A QUOTA...

but, we can't rule out bored cops.

well they could be right  about the NO QUOTA,but it is upsetting or annoying when they pull you over for that. i understand it is their job and it is for their safety, but same reason we tint our car (IMO) is for 1. to shade much of the sunlight during hot summer days, 2. privacy or at least deter folks from staring at you while stopped on red lights/traffic. 3. keeping out interior cooler at summer.and lastly, it does look good i have to admit. seriously though, if someone is to harm a cop (god forbid) don't you think the person they pull over would have thought about it before he gets close to the window tinted or not. and as someone has said if they were not sure or cannot see the person he can always tell the driver to turn off the engine and step away from the car or roll their windows down and show their hands,or something like that. 20% on your front windows i believe is just right, not too dark but not to light either.

I've always done 20% on all of my vehicles (except windshield) all the way around and I have never been stopped or failed and inspection yet (knock on wood). I like the look of 5% but for me it's too dark at night. +1 for 20% being just right.

I used to drive my boyfriend's car before I bought my own and I was pulled over once because his tint was to dark.
He had a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with 5% tint. We live in Pa and the limit here is 75%, but that doesn't seem worth it to get a legal tint, its to light. He just bought a acura and got a 20% tint on it, so I guess we'll see if they pull him over. As for me I have the same exact car as you. But I just bought mine and I dont have any thing on it yet. Still looking for more information about tinting.
