I have a 4 banger and Ive been thinking about trading in for a ex-l v6. I do realize I will lose money buy is it worth more for the power? I've had my accord for almost 5 months with 7 k miles on it. If anyone would know how it works with trade ins. But is it rly worth it?

I have an 05 Accord EXL V6 Coupe and I can tell you from experience, the difference in the I4 and the V6 is great. The V6 just runs circles around the 4 cyl.My gas mileage is a combined 28 miles per gallon, with the AC running all the time.NOT BAD!!!.I suggest you drive 3 or 4 V6's to help you make your decision.

If I was interested in power solely, V6 would be my choice. Of course, I would have to get the 6spd cause I hate driving automatics.
Hopefully sir_nasty will comment on the trade in aspect as he is our resident pro in that area.

From what I've seen trade in usually isn't a good idea. You can sell your car for quite a bit more than what dealers offer for a trade in. Check out Kellybluebook and see the difference between the private sale price and trade in price to give you an idea.

well when my parents went and got the car they went w/o me. My dad told me the v6 was no different but i think thats from regular driving. But i looked at the specs and it gets all its hp in the higher rpms. Well and yes ive heard trade ins r bad. Idk how they work but i dont want to sell bc my psrents would be pisses even more than if i were to trade in. I jus heard accords have good value esp. The old ones. Anyway i got mine at pat peck honda in gulfport, ms. My parents financed it so im paying 463 a mnth. Im jus wonderin how much more the v6 will cost me

well, to make it funner
you could mod your 4 cylinder to that it can match a stock v6

Whats the point to mod a 4 banger so it can match a STOCK V6!!.Get the V6, mod it so you really have an awesome running car.On this forum most of you guys are running 4 bangers, whats that all about?.

well ive considered that but i think it will be more costly.
its gonna cost me an arm and leg for turbo and the extra exhaust which
will make the mpg worst than the v6. The thing is i want the v6 for a little more power, better ac,vsa, and other nic nacs the v6 has

4 bangers are more mod-able...if you had an infinite amount of money and modded both cars to the max, the 4 banger would turn out faster just because you cannot do as much to the v6 to make it faster. i said an infinite amount of money just to make the amount the same. please do not leave a comment like, "well w/ an infinite amount of money you can put a bugatti engine and tranny in or anything like that. i am just trying to make a point.

4 bangers are lighter too

^sure, but the v6's will run circles around them all day, any day. If you do go the v6 route and are still craving more power, you can always supercharger that sucker or do a j35 swap with a supercharger, now that's some serious stuff. But it'll cost alot of money.

yeah, run cirles around them stock! but it is so much easier and CHEAPER to make a 4 banger faster than a modded V6. 4 banger FTW!

^ not true. With the basic bolt ons, a 4 banger accord would probably have 170-175 whp and roughly around the same ballpark for torque. A modded v6 with basic bolt ons have at least around 230-235 whp and around 200 torque depending on what tranny the v6 has.
The 4 banger has potential, but unless you do some serious modding to it like doing a k20/24, at the end of the day, the v6 would still be on top.
As I have said in my other post, mod for mod on both these cars, the v6 still over powers the 4 banger. For example, the 4 banger can go the k20/24 route and boost, while the v6 can also go the j35 or even the uncharted territory the j37 and boost. All in all, the v6 reigns over the 4 banger.

well, i was gonna say that a modded 4 banger k24 would be faster then a modded k24 V6, but that would be goin against my original statement cuz i did say that if you did everything possible to both engines that the 4 banger would come out on top, but i guess if you boosted the j35/37 then it would be faster then a boosted k24, so i guess your right. good argument though and interesting topic. if i put this way: a modded 4 banger would beat a modded V6 without engine swaping. but i never stated that in my original thesis, so i guess that would be stance instead.

^ haha not if you supercharge it or turbocharge it. Who would come out on top now? I guess I'm being biased since I have a v6 but with a retarded transmission. But dont worry, your car will out do my car any day haha.

one day we should all meet at the track and line up 4 cylinders vs v6's
and all the cars would be from this forum
that would be a really fun event !!!!

Stevent,
My 05 Accord EXL V6 Coupe has 244 HP and 212 FT. LBS. of torque. You are way low on your estimate of what a moded V6 could get for HP.The torque would remain essentially the same due to the stroke of the V6.The HP would go way up from 244.

^^ that's the thing, the torque stays the same, and a big part of power gain is increasing the torque and trying to match it with your horsepower.

Like the old saying goes, "there is no replacement for displacement."
A V6 with more displacement, more pistons, more stroke will always be more powerful than a I4 assuming equal mods.
Sure you could drop $10,000 into an I4 and get 225 hp or so but youd have to wind it up to 6000 RPM's to get it which drastically increases wear and tear on the motor. A V6 will make 225 all day long with no problem.
If youre wanting the most horsepower you can possibly get, then youre gonna have to bite the bullet and get the V6 and take your lumps on trade in value cause you probably owe more than its worth at this point.
However, if you think your I4 has good power now but you would just like a little more oomph, then keep it and throw some cash into some modest mods and enjoy the smaller payment and 34 mpg!
Another thing to consider is that there are much more choices of mods for a I4 than a V6 AND theyre cheaper (usually) and because of that, it can be more fun to mod a I4 cause you have many more options and can bemore creative and dial it in to just the way you want it.

i'm postive that the i4 can get more hp then 225! throw a custom 90mm turbo with a 50 shot in there and thats garenteed past 225hp.

Actually, you may think that your car makes more horsepower than 244 and more torque then 212, but in actuality, those numbers are to the crank, not to the wheel. Meaning the power made from your engine has to go through a series of steps before it gets transferred to the wheels. In that process, you lose horsepower, with a manual, you lose minimal, but with an automatic, you lose somewhere around 10-15%. If you are so sure that you can get more than 244hp and 212 torque, then dyno it. I'm 99% positive, you'll barely reach 244 hp and 212 torque. If you search, there has been people who have modded the v6 and they are barely reaching those numbers.

+1 to stevent
To the OP, v6 FTMFW.
I just got my v6, and it doesnt even feel like the same vehicle. Much smoother power delivery, more refined. To avoid the kill of trade in, I am selling it privately (to family, actually). Value of the sale is only 1500 less than what I paid for it almost 16k miles ago. That's not bad. Only negative is that I had to eat the sales tax I paid on it.
