I've started to shop for a new CAI and I've run across a lot of eBay listings like this one:

BLACK COLD AIR INTAKE HONDA ACCORD 94-02 V6 98 97 01 (#8020970460)

for $5.99 !!!!!!

I realize it's probably cheap crap, but how can they do this?

On E-bay they can do alot of scary things...
I used to do a few grand a month on there but gave it up a couple of years ago because of all of junk deals that are going on.
The honest guys like my self were getting slam dunked by the shysters that seem to linger around in the E-bay site...

It's a shame how many people buy this junk!
I get nervous even buying name brand stuff on eBay.

I stick to e bay dealars who show large volumes, have a high service rating and have the pay pal shield.

if have purchased many items off e bay for my car and have not had a problem, be smart do your reasearch contact the seller before buying, get phone numbers and e mail. it works if you make it work. above all common sense, what do you think your going to get for 7 bucks anyway!!!

You're right. I still hate to see people getting ripped off.

On that note, which do you think is better for a 1999 EX V6, Injen, AEM, Yakuza or other?

I went with a comptech ice box for my car. 2000 accord lx 3.0 v6.

I stuck with comptech because the part is made specifically for my car, when i add the supercharger later
it works in conjunction with the ice box.
Comptech is more expensive but the parts are well made tested on our cars and fit perfectly. They come with
good warranty and great installation intructions.

Injen makes great products as do AEM of course, check out the dyno results before you invest

If your doing the install, make sure you get good instructions.

good luck

Thanks for the info. That's why I joined the forum.
I'll check out the Comptech.

You bring up another good point. I don't see a lot of dyno data with products. They just advertise a "possible" HP or percent gain. I don't like that. I don't believe there is a standard for advertising HP gain.
Where do you get reliable data from?

Comptech posts their dyno results on their site.. You have to take that with a little pinch of salt since it is thier
site, but they are a reputable outfit i think.

I'll post my dyno results when i get it done.

They sell them for cheap because they made them cheap. No research...just a pipe and a filter really and the necessary connections.

I know you're right, but $5.99. You could probably recycle it for more money.

Sometimes they list things for very cheap and make up the price in shipping charges.

do those cheap ebay cold air intakes really work?

If the air intake gets away from the engine and sucks in cool air it works better than the standard air box, so even if its's a cheap makeover unit of a good one...it at least gets in cooler air...

It's a pipe and a filter, that's less restrictive than stock. It works. They're rather simple, but the more notable intake companies do their best to get the best gains. Also cheap intakes often don't come with the mounting reinforcements, etc. to prevent rattling and secure mounting.

I'm no resident expert, by any stretch... I bought one and all it did was sound kinda cool and kill my gas mileage. HP gain was nothing to talk about. I am shopping to replace it already... Sometimes you get what you pay for...
