weird wining noise, help!

hey all, I just got some parts replaced as I mentioned in past post. IE: belts, water pump, and seals. When I got it back from the mechanic, I noticed a weird wining noise. No matter what RPM i'm at i still hear it. I called the mechanic and he said it was just the new parts breaking in. Is this true or is it something to worry about?
PS: just switched to Mobile 1 synthetic, Woohoo!
In case you didn't read my past post, i replaced,
BAL SHAFT SEAL
BAL SHAFT SEAL RETAINER
OIL DRIVE GEAR SEAL
FRONT MAIN (CRANK) SEAL
CAM SEAL
VALVE COVER GASKET
SPARK PLUG TUBE SEALS X 4
TIMING BELT
BALANCE SHAFT BELT
WATER PUMP

Can you tell where it's coming from? It sounds like the water pump might be whining but I can't say for certain.... I have a hard time believing that it's just the parts breaking in..... See if you can pinpoint the noise.... has it been going on since you got the car back? If your waterpump goes out and breaks the timing belt is he going to fix it under warranty?

it sounds like it's comming from the center of the engine. But I can't be sure. I'll take it up there tommorrow before work to let him listen to it.

Sometimes you can pinpoint the location by putting a stick to your ear and touching various parts of the engine. Be careful around rotating pulleys, belts, etc.

The most common place I've heard of that squeek coming from after a repair was the tensioner.... Someone else in here had the same issue a month or so ago....

im gonna wake up at 7:45 to get there at 8:00. I'll give them 2 hrs. to work on it. I guess i'll just play it by ear. Some people told me a water pump bearring could be too tight or a pully out of alignment. idk.

I went and he said the timing belt was just tight. He said it should loosen up and quiet down in a couple of hundred of miles. If the sounds not better by next week, he said he'll go into the engine and check everything out again. So far I put 100 miles on the new parts and I still hear the whining. I found another oil leak, the disty O-ring. they replaced it for me though. I hope that was the solution to my leaky engine.

Just so you know, I had the same problem with my 96 Accord after TB replacement. Turns out the tech put too much tension on the belt. Had it properly adjusted by a Honda trained tech.
Noise gone. All is well.....

sounds like you may need to make him re-adjust....

I've seen a few overtightened timing belts. It's way too tight if it's whining. It should be readjusted.

yes, I guess ill take it to Honda next paycheck (2 weeks). They charge $85 an hour. Will take an hour to adjust?

sometimes. Honda also said they won't touch my car. Since they didn't install the belt, they won't mess with anything. They did offer to put on a new belt, pump, for the small price of $500!!! I spoke with the manager and was a little ill tempered. I looked in the haynes manual and it's just one adjustment bolt! one! I don't have a torque wrench, so I don't wanna mess anything up. I'll take it to the shop that did it to begin with. They said bring it back on my next oil change. Which is gonna be soon. oil is going on 5k (synthetic oil) rated at 15, but im gonna change it early since this is the first synthetic run through.
