When I was doing an oil change I noticed under the oil filter there was a hole. Just curious should that be plugged and what is it?

is it a hole or is there a metal plug in it... is it threaded? if its plugged its a core plug DONT TAKE IT OUT!... if its a smooth bore hole... maby a dowel rod hole used durring manufacturing and if its a threaded its probably to mount some sort of stand to... it could also be used in manufacturing...

Thanks for the response. It's a smooth hole so I'll just leave it alone?
