ok i don't understand it
what is the whole point of getting carbon fiber?
it's expensive and makes the car look ugly

and it weighs next to nothing... it can also be painted but the point is for weight reduction, the less weight you have to haul around the better economy you'll get and the more power you'll have.

and it is pretty strong, and most people think it looks good

Yeah, less weight is always better. Personally I like the CF look.

so you CAN paint a CF body kit or something? i mean i like to show off too but ppl really should jsut paint those CF body kits. and yeah i read your reply the point is weight reduction but i like looks too. i wouldnt mind a cf hood though. those look cool

For me it's more for looks and to make people say, " Hey that looks wicked, what is that made of, is that painted that way?" It's just something to have that makes my car stand out. If u can't appreciate it, maybe you need to try to buy a carbon fiber product for your car and see what u think.

on a related topic, i know carbon fiber parts are usually a night mare to install, my local shop says every hood they have ever done hasnt fit right and always has inperfections.

There are some folks over on the m3forum that are CF wh*res. Gotta have everythign carbon fiber. I think it looks pretty cool if done right, but its quite expensive to do for purely cosmetic purposes. Lets face it: a CF front grill will likely yield no performance gains!

i like the CF look alot especially the CF hoods. and yes i watched a racing movie( mighta been from 1320video.com) and the trunk lid was only like 3 pounds cuz it was CF, no performance gain there but thats like nothing for the engine to haul after that.
in reply to smaglik about CF on everything, the video had a fully chrome(think it was BMW) car on it also which looked really cool and prolly super expensive.

I have seen a chrome M3 on the web before. ick.
A CF hood, trunk, or especially a roof can help performance tremendously, as it will drop the overall weight, as well as drop the center of gravity. However, some parts are more for show than for go (not that there is anythign wrong with that).

having a CF hood will help alleviate oversteer, which our cars are known for. especially when you add 80 lbs from an engine swap, the 35lbs difference in the CF hood makes a little difference. i just painted mine.

The other thing is, if you have like a professional race car, and the whole body of the car, along with like the dashboard and seat and everything else is made out of carbon fiber, then you are looking at serious performance gains. The other thing is that really really expensive carbon fiber aero kits, such as Mugen for us, and like AC Schnitzer for BMW's are built with really strong carbon fiber and thus can add tremendous ammounts of downforce. Carbon fiber is exceptionally strong, so for things like difusers and wings that actually have function, it is a must.

i forgot to mention my short ram is CF as well. CF resists heat very well so its the perfect material for an intake, tho plastic is probably just as good. supposedly, because of this, underhood temperatures might be reduced since the CF can't hold on to the heat like metal. maybe adding a little more performance, but dont quote me on that.

What kind of intake do you have lol? Is it like fully CF, like a multi-ply tube ?

Nice, clean setup you got there.
CF looks awesome on darker colored cars, with the exception of silver. Everything looks decent on silver. It's the neutral color.

That's pretty sweet Velocifero... I like the total setup of your car man, it's clean, and tastfully done. Nice H22 btw, how difficult was that swap?

lol yes it. o and smaglik when i said the carbon fiber doesnt add performance, i meant the actual part(like hoods and trunks) but the extreme drop in weight will add the performance.

hmmm i thought that CF was flamable but also distributes heat well. also id like to get a CF hood cause i think it matches black well. cf on a whit car looks too much lie a beaner where every pannel is from a diffrent car

Some manufacturers will take aluminum and wrap it with carbon fiber so you get the looks...

i wouldnt doubt that's what mine is. when i got the car there were numerous ghetto things wrong. im almost positive thats the type of intake this is. but it still doesnt hot at all like raw metal would in the engine bay. like i said its wrapped inside and out, is nice and wide, and doesnt have any sharp curves on it. im still keepin it
