Default Sound System Help Needed Is 1997 Accord Sedan a Premium System?

Hi all, I'm a new Honda Owner by 4 months.
My signature gives my Honda specs.
I bot a Pioneer Model DEH-150MP Head Unit ($40 off retail) CD Player, USB MP3.
When searching for additional items I may need, I found a couple of references saying the Head Unit WILL NOT WORK with my Honda Sound System which is Stock.
They were saying the sound system was a Premium Sound System. Any one installed a Pioneer DEH-150MP Head Unit??

Can anyone advise if this is true or not? Maybe saving me time and money.

I did purchase OEM Factory Wiring Harness, and a Bezel Trim Cage, the Din Cage comes with the Head Unit.

Thank You in advance,
Ron

Default Premium Sound System?

Can anyone tell me if ALL 1997 Accord EX 4 door Sedan 4 cyl Sound Systems are Premium? Were there Optional Sound Systems that were Premium? Or, were ALL Sound Systems Standard?

My understanding of a Premium Sound System is one that incorporates either a Sub Woofer, and or an Amplfier. Niether of which I can find obvious, nor really know where to look,,,,,

Thanks for your time,
Ron

yes, Honda did put "premium" systems in some cars - with an amplifier behind the glove box. if so, the new head unit output will be the amp input and you need to connect the new hu remote turn on.

it may or may not include a sub. even having an external amplifier and better speakers is "premium".

pull the glove box and look for an amp.

Default Honda Sound System new Pioneer HU

First off I would like to sincerely Thank You. Obviously you are the Forums, electronics / wiring Guru. You are an Asset to all of us on the Forum challenged in these endeavors.

The Honda and HU are for my wife. The Radio in the Honda Sound System is woefully lacking, to say nothing of a Cassette Player being a Joke in this day and age.

If she could listen to a Sarah Brightman or Country CD decently reproduced it would make her day!

I looked for an Amplifier. I could Not find or Recognize one. I think all I found was the AC Evaporator and or Blower Motor Unit.

If I understand you correctly the Worst Case scenario would be to Connect the new Pioneer HU Remote Turn On. What ever That may be,,,??

I want nothing to do with speaker, amplifier, or Sub Woofer REPLACEMENT. I simply want to drive the Existing Honda Sound System speakers (as well as what already may exist) with or through the Pioneer HU. It is Only 14 Amps RMS. For some reason I thought it was 22 RMS.

Your response will help me decide, either to tear into the Honda, or send the Hastily ordered Goodies back.

Thank You Kindly,
Ron

i completely understand the desire to have good tunes in the car.

most likely you will have no issues as long as some simple steps are followed:

- no factory wiring should be cut.
- connections between the head unit wiring harness and the wire harness you bought should be soldered (ideally) or crimped using a proper tool and size connectors.
- electrical tape is for insulating, and 3M Super 33+ is the only tape i use or recommend.
- the black ground wire from the head unit is best taken directly to metal (there will be a factory ground location nearby)
- the blue/white wire is remote turn-on while the blue wire is power antenna.

getting the factory radio out is fairly simple in these cars, as the instructions will detail:
http://www.metraonline.com/files/pro...T-7800_web.pdf

if you need to correlate wiring in the accord to wiring in the harness:
Radio Constant 12V+ Wire: Yellow/White
Radio Switched 12V+ Wire: White/Red
Radio Ground Wire: Black
Radio Illumination Wire: Red/Black
Radio Dimmer Wire: n/a
Radio Antenna Trigger Wire: Yellow/White
Radio Antenna Location: Left Rear
Front Speakers Size and Location: 5 1/4″ Doors
Left Front Speaker Wire (+): Blue/Green
Left Front Speaker Wire (-): Gray/Black
Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Red/Green
Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Brown/Black
Rear Speakers Size and Location: 6 1/2″ Rear Deck
Left Rear Speaker Wire (+): Blue/Yellow
Left Rear Speaker Wire (-): Gray/White
Right Rear Speaker Wire (+): Red/Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Wire (-): Brown/White

Illumination wire is orange/white in the harness and can be connected if you choose.
Orange wire is Dimmer and is not to be connected.
both should be capped and insulated if not used.

Default Pioneer into 97 Accord

Thank YOU!!

Will Start on it today. Regardless of the outcome I will follow up with the results.

Pioneer Should be ashamed for not marking their Head Unit Wireing harness. Even useing a Magnifying Glass I can NOT read the wires. Some of the colors are Obvious, Some are not.

I will try first with out useing the blue white remote on and the Power Antennae. If no noise will then hook them up with fingers crossed.

Thanks again and Best Regards!

Ron

for what it's worth, i only use/recommend Alpine.

no one needs to label wiring because the colors are standard
