How to fix water pump or timing belt 1993 Honda Accord 2.2
1. Jack up car and pull front wheel, drivers side. (be sure to use safety stands)
2. Pull spark plugs and put car in neutral. (you will thank me later for this)
3, You need to loosen the crankshaft nut or sometimes called harmonic balance nut.
4. Remove top power steering line, then remove belts and timing cover.
5, Make sure you car is in correct timing. Number 1 cylinder is drivers side.
Where the transmission hooks to the engine, about half way down look for a black rubber plug.
You will need 2 people for this, remove rubber plug, turn the engine very slow with the crank shaft bolt. What you are looking for is a 15 -+ the engine should be +
Next check the cam shaft pulley, the up should be a little to the right, What you are looking for here is hard to see, (there are 2 tiny slits in your cam shaft pulley, on each side, these align up with top of engine head. (note: do not force turn the engine, if you do you might bend values. with spark plugs out and car in neutral car should turn easy.)
Loosen the timing belt tension by loosening the bolt that hold the tension pulley.
6.When you have the water pump and timing belt replaced, it time to test.
7. Turn the engine using the crankshaft bolt very slow, does the engine turn smooth or does the engine feel like it is locked up? If locked up you need to recheck all timing marks. If engine turns smooth, put the engine back together.
8. One more check. After you have all together, remove the spark plug cap, is the rotor pointing to number one plug? (the last car I fixed this was pointing to number 4) Since you used correct factory timing, the + and slits in cam shaft pulley, If not pointing to number one plug remove plug wires and point to number one.
9. Test the car. it should start and run good.

 

I forgot 1 thing to add. When you have the timing cover off. If it looks like a size 10 bolt is missing form behind the belt tension pulley. (do not add one, if you add a bolt your timing belt will not tighten correct.

In a manual transmission car having it in grear as you are spinning the engine can cause the car to move.....
