Default F23 Head Gasket, Timing Belt, Water Pump & Radiator Replacement

Hi all,

I recently bought a car with a blown head gasket caused by a leak in a radiator that was not addressed by the former owner. I took my time doing the repair and took photos at each step of the repair. Since this site only allows 5 photos per post, you can see all steps I went through at:

http://hondarepair.intuitwebsites.com/Page-1.html

Comments and critiques are welcome. So far the headgasket replacement is holding up with no problems. Replacement of a headgasket on an engine with a aluminum block and head requires a lot more attention to detail when compared to a cast iron block.

Nice, I did the timing belt on my 2000 honda accord. Made a tool to hold the tensioner pulley so I could get that super tight bolt out.

haha, yeah I would take a picture of it and show you, but it is lost in the depths of my backyard. I have been looking everywhere for it, as soon as I find it I will take pictures and show you. It was fairly simple to make. I just took a 2 foot long plate of steel for the handle, welded a small piece of steel pipe on it and took 4 small plates of steel and welded them on the steel tube so that they would fit in the hex of the harmonic balancer. Holds it right in place, then you take a deep socket that fits that bolt, and put it right in the steel tube.

Hardlymoving did you have to take the cams and rocker arms out of the head before you sent it in? I called 2 different shops where I live in Fresno, CA and one said I only had to remove the cam, the other said I have to remove the rocker arms. They both asked for different pieces to remove. Granted I don't have the same motor as you, I have a f22b1(SOHC VTEC 4 cyl). I am getting ready for a head gasket set replacement and I found your walk-through throughly helpful. This is my first attempt at this and I do have a few experienced friends to help but more knowledge is better knowledge. Thanks again.
