2001 Accord Drinks OIL !!
Hello All, I have a question concerning a 2001 SE 4door 2.3 vTec 5spd 174,000 km's
It drinks oil at rate of 1 liter per tank of fuel, when driving the car you can see visible whitish grey smoke from the back end (no leaks what so ever at the engine). I have had a compression test done and that came back with 175+- numbers across all cylinders and they said the head gasket was fine as well. The more information I gather points to the rings? If I have to replace the bottom end, am I better off going to another engine type for this car (what will fit without rebuilding the entire car?). I have read a lot of other posts about similar (but not as much) oil consumption and was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions about the path I should take. The car it's self is in great shape so investing a few dollars seems worth the effort.
Regards,
David

yeah the compression test would tell you if the rings were bad, I would check the PCV, although that is a ton of oil for just a PCV, i would think th likely culprit would be the valve seals.

Thanks for the info, I will get a price on the service and see if it is something they can do soon. Is there anything else that should be done while the have it apart aside from the belt and pump, that was done in the spring.

WOW! I was just getting ready to post the exact same thing about my veh.I have a 2001 EX 4cyl with 243,000 miles. My car smokes from time to time when I take off from stop lights or stop signs. It's driving me crazy and I hate to see the smoke. I have been told that the valve seals are bad as well. Is there anything else that could possibly cause the engine to smoke like this?

Well I had my PCV valve looked at by the Hondadealer and they didn't a need to change it. I change my oil every 3,000 miles. I've never been late in doing that. The piston rings were changed this year as well. The only thing that is left is the seals..
