2001 Honda Accord EX 4-cylinder oil pump seal fell off
Hi everyone. This is my first post. Forgive me if it's in the wrong area. I have the following:
2001 Honda Accord 4-door EX
2.3L VTEC engine
I just bought this car with a massive oil leak. When the car warms up, oil is leaking by the quart. I got it home and took the timing cover off, and could see that the oil pump seal is just hanging onto the oil pump shaft. The only thing that is keeping it from falling off all the way is the pulley. My question is:
Has anyone ever seen this? Is it normally just held in by friction, or is there supposed to be some kind of gasket sealer in there to keep it from falling out?
Should I just change this seal, or replace the whole timing cover gaskets including the water pump and timing belt... since I have everything off?
The car has about 114,000 miles and I have no idea if the previous owner replaced anything.
Thanks in advance for the help.
