96 Accord Transmission swap
I'm a noob to this forum but not Honda's. I have an 04 Odyssey and a 06 TL. I just bought a 1996 Accord LX for my daughter as her first car.
Details: 1996 Accord LX, 102K mi, 2.2L
It was leaking small amounts of transmission fluid from the passenger drive shaft/transmission seal. Took it to Firestone to have the shafts and seals replaced. They did this and is still leaks. I took it back tot hem today and they said it was leaking from the seal between the case halves. $3K to replace it with a re-man tranny.
So I drove across the street to Cottman and they put it on the lift, sprayed it off and cleaned it since the thought FS was wrong. Sure enough the leak is still coming from the left axle seal. He ran it in gear on the lift and we watched the fluid beging to appear and pool. Then he shut it off and rolled the tire to show me a slight in and out motion of the axle shaft. He stated that the differentials bearing were shot. $1800 to rebuild it.
I hope that was enough info to answer my questions.
Should I pickup a junkyard tranny and have it installed for $450?
What should I look for when I find a used tranny?
What year tranny's fit in the 06 Accord? I think it is 94-97.
What other advice can you offer.
Thanks for helping a newby out.
