'05 Accord EX Problem - 3000 RPM limit
Hey everyone,
I have a 2005 Honda Accord EX (5 speed manual) that has been running great (116k miles) until recently. I don't abuse the car, I drive quite normally and have kept up with all normal maintenance.
So here's the problem:
A few weeks ago I was getting on the interstate and something weird happened. You know that feeling when you are in gear and let off the gas suddenly... the engine's compression acts like a brake and you lurch forward... well that's what happened as I was getting on the interstate, except I still had my foot on the gas and the RPMs were only at 3000. I noticed the engine light came on too. So I let off... let the RPMs come down a bit and tried again. Sure enough, right around 3000 RPM it did it again. So I carefully drove the car home and took it to a Honda & Acura mechanic here in town that comes highly recommended (http://local.yahoo.com/details?id=18...from=4#reviews).
1st step - they pull the code from the engine light
This turns out to be a code for the VTEC Solenoid. They put a new one in ($300). The car works for about a day, and then I get the engine light again, but no symptoms.
2nd step - they pull the code
This ends up being 2 codes: Rear O2 sensor and Catalytic converter.
They clear the codes and advise me to keep driving since the cost of replacing those parts isn't worth it. It wouldn't hurt the car. The car continues symptom-free for a 2nd day, and then it happens again. Engine light and this 3000 RPM limit.
3rd step - they pull the code
This one ends up being a slightly different code than the first one, but neither the Rear O2 sensor nor the Catalytic converter code repeated. At this point we're starting to suspect something funky with the ECU. They run diagnostics and say it's not sending the right signals. So, we replace the ECU ($500). The car works fine for a day or two, and then it happens AGAIN. Engine light and 3000 RPM limit.
At this point I'm frustrated and would like to see if anyone else has any insight.
Thank you.

Do you have the actual codes the ECU is throwing?
Are the maintenance items up to date, like spark plugs, air filter, etc?
Are the ends of both battery cables clean and secure? It might be worthwhile to have the battery/alternator tested at O'Reillys or AutoZone.
