1992 Accord EX, Not charging at idle, hi rpm ok, but not at idle.
I read in the Internet that beginning with the 1990 model year, certain Hondas were equipped with an Electronic Load Detention (ELD) module which was designed to improve fuel economy by almost shutting off the alternator during light throttle and idle. If the module fails, the ECM loses a sensor and the vehicle may experience stalling, rough idle, or low / no alternator output specially at idle. I bought this car 1 year ago, and after a new set of wires, plugs, O2 sensor, new cat, new tires, new air filter, new muffler, good fuel flow (psi) and running perfectly, I can not get better than 20 MPG. Now with the alternator problem, I wonder if this module is the reason for all my problems, or, does anyone knows something else that could help me?Have anyone heard this? What this thing looks like? Where is it? Does my 92 Accord has one?

the ELD ( ELECTRONIC LOAD DETECTOR ) will show a code 20......... It is located in the underhood fuse box... it has a plug going to it with 3 wires.. Black, ( neg) black/yeallow ) pos ) and green/red..
read the ecu , if it reads code 20, i will show you a step by step how to troubleshoot it ..
to read the codes, jump the SC ( service connector ) located under the right side of dash, next to the kick panel. it is a 2 wires blue plug ,,,with a paper clip, jump the 2 wires together, turn ignit key on and read the blinks on the instrument cluster..
a quick blink = 1
long blink = 10
thus 4 long 3 short = 43
2 long = 20 ..
let it read a few times to make sure you read it properly and there is not more than 1 code stored

Found the wires going to the fuse box. This ELD ( ELECTRONIC LOAD DETECTOR ) it is located in the underhood fuse box... it has a plug going to it with 3 wires.. Black, ( neg) black/yeallow ) pos ) and green/red allright, but it look like is built-in into the fuse box. Can this be replaced or the whole box have to be replaced?

Replaced alternator. Car is charging perfectly now. Any sugestions on the fuel mileage problem? Do you thig a bad alternator was causing the fuel mileage problem? I think this car was never charging/had alternator problems since I bought it.

yes alt could be the cause of poor mileage,, when alt is bad , it will have no extra load on engine , rpms will be higher thus worse gas mileage
