1998 4-cylinder Accord engine light stays on

Default 1998 4-cylinder Accord engine light stays on

Today my 1998 Check engine light came on.

I checked the gas cap to make sure it was tight.

Anyone can tell me what could cause the check engine light to stay light?

Is it safe to drive till I get it to the Honda repair shop?

Any ideas?

So many different things can cause it.

I would reccomend just taking it in and see what the computer says... or if this happens often buy yourself the reader.

Take your car to Autozone and they will pull the code for free. Write down the code and post it here. If the check engine light flashes then you have a problem and you should pull over immediatly and shut the car off. Other than that, the check engine light just tells you that you have a problem and should look into it.

By the way Auto Zone will tell you whats wrong and also sell you the part to fix it...Try them and ask for there Diagnostic Specialists.

If you are unfortunate enough to live in CA you can jump pins #8 and #13 on the Data Link Connector (DLC) and then turn the ignition to ON (but not to start). The check engine light will blink the code.



In Caulifornia (yes I misspelled it on purpose) I understand that AZ cannot read the codes for you.


Here is the procedure and code list

DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC)

c. Turn the ignition key to ON and observe the "CHECK ENGINE" light. It will flash the trouble codes. For example: 2
long flashes, pause and then 3 short flashes = 23 = P0325 = Knock sensor circuit fault (4 cyl only).
One short flash = 1. One long flash = 10. If there is no trouble codes, the light will not flash.

Can't you damage something if you jump pins 8 and pins 13 of the DLC 16 pin connector without using the Scan tool?

ruben go to autozone please. ..... they have a scanner that wont damage anything at all.
