Transmission Speed Sensor Problem
D.I.Y Request Form
Year and trim accord :1992 Accord EX
Your request for a DIY write up :
I purchased a used 1992 Honda Accord EX. The speedometer and tachometer do not work. I have tried a different instrument cluster, as the original had burnt spots on the PCB. I have replaced the VSS with a couple different units. I continue to get continuity all the way to the instrument cluster (no broken wires), but no 0-5v pulse. I tried removing the VSS, but leaving the shaft in the Power Steering Speed Sensor (PSSS). The shaft does not move with the engine idling or revving. I removed the PSSS. The shaft is in perfect condition and when I turn the gear by hand, the VSS shaft turns. The gear inside the transaxle that meshes with the PSSS, however does not move when the wheels are rotated. I am sure the next step is to pull the transaxle and visually inspect the inside for damage. Is there another idea I should check into first? If not, where can I find good schematics and/or instructions for dissassembly and reassembly of an automatic transmission?
Thanks in advance for your help.
