Well, if it's powered off the alternator, they conveniently forget that's about 60% efficiency mech-to-elect conversion.
PLUS the fact that while the electricity is "available", it's not free. I guess they're counting on most people not realizing it takes moretorque to drive an alternator under load vs. driving it without load.
