Default 2003 Accord Power window?

The passenger side power window won't go down. I hear a click (in the pass door) when I try the driver or passenger side switch. Dealer said it was the motor, but wanted $450 to replace. Is this a job for a car owner? I have seen motors (regulators) for $80-110.

Is this a good job for a car owner? Any recommendations on a vendor for motor? Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

I don't have any experience w/ a model this recent, but based on earlier models (90-97), following is offered.

Have you tried door switches and driver's door? Just asking. Sometimes the obvious is overlooked.

Most important tip is "A shop manual of some type is necessary to avoid damage. "

Hardest part is removal of door panel w/o damaging fasteners or door panel. Manual is essential IMO.

If motor clicks, it's probably OK. Window channel may be jammed w/ dirt/debris, window has gotten loose andjammed, or regulator endless wire is fouled. Remove window and check regulator. It may be OK. Clean window guide channel and lubricate w/ silicon grease (not too much!). Remount regulator and window.

good luck

It's weird. For lack of anything else to do, I originally changed the fuse. It worked!!! But only for a couple days. I changed the fuse again and nothing. Both of these problems happened after having someone in the passenger seat. I know it's probably nothing, but I thought I would metion it. None of the fuses appeared to be blown. Even the original I replaced first. Thanks for the info.

If you hear noise from the door when you hit the up/down switch the motor is attempting to move the window. It's likely jammed for one of reasons in my first post.

good luck

Before I changed the fuse (and it worked) I had someone try to force the window down while I tried the driver and passenger switch. No luck. Then the fuse fixed it. I will take the door panel off and take a look. I have a 2003-05 Accord Haynes book. Thanks again.

Isn't the click just the relay? If the relay is clicking that means its getting power and switching, only the motor is dead and not functioning. Thats what I've seen in the past.

Power window relay closes when keyswitch is turned on, not when window switch is pressed. Any noise from the door must be the motor IMO.

A damaged driver's door up/down switch or pax door up/down switch could have the effect of reversing the window or disable window movement entirely.

good luck

That relay is the relay that gives the system power. I am talking about the relay used between the switch and the window motor. I am sure there is a relay used, as that what they are for. The current the motor uses is to high for those little switches. So they use a relay for each motor, this relay may be built into the motor like a starter motor, I don't know. I've never done work on a window motor. I'll look up the schematic in my haynes manual. All I am saying is if there is a click that doesn't mean the motor is OK, the click is coming from the relay.

I looked at power window wiring diagrams I have for earlier models, 90, 94 Accords and97 Acura TL, and none have relays between the door panel switches and motors. You need to obtain a shop manual for your model and review the wiring diagram to be sure, but seems unlikely. Fuses are 20A fuses, so motor draw is perhaps 1/2 that value or 10A. I understand why you think arelay must be making the noise, but you need a wiring diagram to know.

good luck
