Default 2014 Maintenance

I have been through the manual on this car and it is not clear to me when service should be done. Should I wait until something beeps?

Coming up on 30K miles. Have changed the oil every 3K myself and reset the oil thing. Other than that nothing.

When the maintenance warning lamp comes on, it will display a letter & some numbers. THAT is what you want. Your maintenance schedule says what items belong to each number that's displayed.

Your maintenance light should have come on maybe 4 times over those 30k miles. Which code numbers have come up each time? That tells you what needs to be done.
A 1
B 1 2
A whatever combinations... ?

Thanks for your reply Jim.

This is a 4 CYL with a CVT trans

From what I am understanding after rereading the manual and talking to the Honda service department, the maint codes will only come up when the oil life drops below 15%. I suppose I could just not reset the oil life and wait until it drops to 15% but I just don't like that.

Here is what the service writer, his computer and my manual (and me) came up with.

Oil change..............................3,000 (my choice)
Oil & oil filter...........................6,000
Trans service...........................30,000 (oil change) ?? looking farther
Air & cabin filter.......................30,000
All the inspections....................30,000
Brake fluid...............................45,000
Coolant...................................45,000 ??
Valve adj.................................60,000
Tune-up..(Plugs ?)....................105,000 (doubt I would wait that long)

Here is the scary part, when I asked about the timing belt, the service writer said our 2014 Accord had a timing chain and didn't need service. We know better and look to have the belt replaced at 100,000 or so.

I like to change my oil and can do a lot more but I just don't want to. This is NOT a suggestion, but just what I intend to do. If others see any flaws, please advise me.

Thanks again Jim and thanks for any suggestions.

Mike

If you have the 4 cyl. your have a timing chain. Last the life of the engine. If you have the CVT transmission, it is totally different than a regular auto, its service requirement are less often. Go with the owners manual or the reminder on the dash.

You would not like my service plan. (Same as Honda's).

1. Modern engine oil can last far longer than 3,000 miles between changes. The 2014 Accord recommends 0W-20, which is either full synthetic or synthetic blend. Honda has both full synthetic and synthetic blend in that viscosity. Other brands will also be full synthetic or blend.

2. You can check the maintenance minder items code(s) even if oil life is more than 15%. See the last post in this thread.

https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...-minder-52234/

For a 2014 Accord, the Sel/Reset may not be a **** depending on trim level; but, it still can be retrieved.

Note, if you reset the maintenance minder, all code(s) will be cleared. So make a note of code(s) before clearing after an oil change, etc.

The 4-cyl (K-series) engine started in 2003 and has a timing chain instead of a belt. There IS something about looking at the amount of extension in the chain tensioner, but I don't remember the details of how to look at that.

I like to do coolant and brake fluid by calendar time rather than mileage. Those things are related to corrosion which happens regardless whether the engine is running or not.
