Default 5w20 and Oil change

Instructions tell me to use 5w20..When should I be changing it? I have heard after 50K miles.

I use Castrol GTX 5 quarts and FRAM filter.

97 and older accords take 5w30 at a service intreval of 3000 miles
98-02 accords take 5w20 at a service intreval of 3000 miles
03-06 accords take 5w20 at a service intreval of 5000 miles for 4cyl, 3000 miles for 6 cyl.
07 and newer uses maintenance minder which you change your oil when your oil life meter reaches 15%

Least thats what we use at our shop, were also in WI so most cars up here are considered severe driving conditions.

I have a 2005 Honda Accord LX SE, 4 cyl. I had been changing every 3K miles. Are you sure I can go 5K without a change? I thought 3K was standard?

well i work for honda so we just use the honda filters, but just about any would do, frams are good pennzoils arent bad, just so long as it fits and its got a good gasket it should work...If you want to change it every 3k more power 2 ya, at our shop we recommend every 5k, havent had any problems, all depends on your driving, if you just drive it, 5k is fine, if you like to harp on it alot, 3k is probally better.

SoI am wasting money by changing it every 3K miles? They don't sell Honda filters at car stores.
When you said depends on my driving? Elaborate please. What do you men just drive it, what else can you do with acar? Harp on it? what is that? I don't race. I drive like a old granny .

ill just say if you drive it like an old granny 5k is definatly fine, 5k would classify as just about any driving other than racing and beatin on your car. id go 5k and save yourself a couple of bucks, Also with your oil changes you should replace the crush washer every time, that way you dont strip out your oil pan drain plug. hell just goin 5k an oil change you could buy a honda filter for about 6-8 bucks and a crush washer for about 50 cents.

5k is really fine for oil change intervals. My 2000 LX Owner's Manual recommends oil changes every 7500 miles, but I am a little too nervous to wait that long. I use Valvoline Syn Blend Maxlife10W30 (I live in Mississippi where it rarely ever gets cold and is between 90 & 100 about 8 months out ofa year).
I use Purolator filters. I have heard bad things about Fram.
Don't forget about the crush washer on the drain plug ($0.50 at the dealerships in my town). If you don't replace it, the car will leak from the drain plug.
I change my oil every 5k or 4 months, whichever comes first.

I always put a little RTV sealant around the washer just as insurance against leakage.
