87 accord starter replacement
Greetings,
Just had a question about replacing the starter on an old 87 accord.
My plan is to swap it out with one from a scrap yard and was just wondering how I would verify I have the right model. I have the 86 Service Manual pdf and it mentions a few different 1.0kw and 1.4kw versions.
I did call a few auto parts dealers and it was about $180+ to get a replacement so I figure if I can get one from a wrecker and get lucky I'll do that but was wondering if an accord or a prelude of the same year range say 86-89 would match or how I would know for sure.
When I call the parts dealers they also ask if it is an automatic/standard and fuel injected/carb.
My guess would be that just allows them to know what kind of starter was on that car when it was manufactured. Right/wrong?
For the record this model is 4dr-sedan, carb, automatic and the PN says Bosh 19-5772-0.

the bosch starter Is Not an original starter, but if you tell the part store, year, model, At or 5sp , they should know which one to give you ,,,bosch starters are ok,, why not install another one just like it..
Is $ 180 for part and labor ?? if so it is not a bad price .. ask how long the new starter is warrantied for

Honda Parts Warehouse $125-$145 for the starter.... You can call them and they will set you up with the right part, look at the vendors list on the right hand side, they have good prices for stuff...

RE: 87 accord starter replacement
Thanks for the replies.
The junk yard I went to had a cross-reference chart and it showed I could get something from an 86-89 Accord. I found one that had the same sort of orientation on the engine.
I ended up installing a Mitsuba model. Cost me $25 bucks and so far so good!
