thanks now i just need to be able to afford the TCU. for now i continue to pull the back up fuse to buy myself some more time but it hasn't done it in almost 2 weeks now *knocks on wood*

and i think the "fluid loss" was the fact that i hadn't checked my transmission fluid in entirely too long. i checked the underside of the transmission and found no sign what so ever of any transmission fluid.

so today after no problems for over 2 weeks the car wouldn't shift again. pulled the back up fuse again and it shifts fine again. as far as i know this time the D4 light didn't start flashing like the last 2 times. my mom drives the car at night for work, and didn't see the light flash, and i drive it during the day and the light didn't start flashing. (sure wish i could afford a TCU )

You can check out car-part.com to find out the price at local junkyards or yards throughout the country (shipping likely not included in that price).

If you can find a U-Pull-It junkyard, you may be able to find one for pretty cheap.

Keep an eye out on Ebay for deals. Craigslist is another option.

Also look for people on forums like this that are parting out accords.

Hopefully you can find something in your price range. It can't hurt to look before the problem gets worse.

thanks PAhonda. will check around. i certainly don't need the problem to get worse. sure would help matters out if the insurance company would stop dragging their feet i could use some of that money for the part.

There is a Honda technician who is an electrical specialist named Justin. He can repair TCU, speedometers, etc. IIRC, he had some already fixed TCUs before, you can check with him to get some ideas regarding pricing.

Along the same lines as redbull-1, there are a couple of sites that show what components typically go bad on the TCU circuit board. If you know someone that replace parts on a circuit board, then they can replace those items. It can't hurt to price out this option as well.

Here is a site showing all the capacitors that can cause problems:

techauto.awardspace.com/transmission.html

Here is a DIY writeup on how to replace one of the resistors and capacitors:

so i finally opened up my TCU and found no damage. i'm at a loss here. if it shows no damage is it still bad? if it's not what else would reset for almost a week the first time and over 2 weeks the second time when i pull the back up fuse to reset codes?

You can try testing the resistance across those resistors 41, 42, and 43 with a volt meter to see if they are in spec.

The caps may not be in bad enough shape to start leaking. The top of a bad cap will be more rounded before it starts leaking. I can't see C5 in your picture.

I would also inspect the solder joints for those capacitors and resistors to see if there is a crack in the solder joint like in a main relay. You may want to take a close look at all of the solder joints with a magnifying glass to see if one of the solder joints has a problem.

You can price out new capacitors to see if it is worth a shot to fix.
